RSX just can't do it... And way too much hype about it even if they couldnt deliver it.

So to summarize:
-Both consoles are capable of native 720 and 1080 (PS3 has more native 1080 games currently)
-Upscaling can be done with a hardware solution, software solution or relying on the TV
-360 has a full-working hardware upscaler, PS3 has one but not fully functional, so it relies on the software or TV
-It depends on the developers and resources
A lot has been said about complex games running at 1080p 60fps, i don't know about WKC (Although Level-5 is amazing and they're working close with SCE), but one dev i don't doubt is Polyphony Digital, there are a zillion PS2 games and only 2 of them, both made by Polyphony (GT4 and Tourist Trophy) are capable of 1080i, This with PS2 hardware, now we've seen GT5:P, and that's not even the complete game, so i don't doubt them...
| Groucho said: Neither the PS3 or 360 are really capable of running complex games at 1080p. You see some PSN titles at 1080p, or some more advanced titles which fit nicely into the "easy to render" bucket running at 1080p (space games, some racing games, etc.). Otherwise it'll be the next gen before we see GPUs capable of rendering 1920x1080 at decent framerates.
Sony advertized that the PS3 was capable of running games at 1080p at launch, which was, and is, true. The 360, at launch, didn't support HDMI, and thus could not support 1080p gaming in any regard. Sony never claimed that "all" or "lots" of games would run at 1080p... just that it was possible. And frankly, the PS3 has more 1080p games than I would expect -- it certainly has a lot more than the 360 does. |
Thats not really true

"Why do they call it the xbox 360? Because when you see it, you'll turn 360 degrees and walk away"
I think 1080p with a decent amount is possible when fully utilising the PS3. It's just that at this momement in time fully utilising the Ps3 is impossible and waste since around 10% of owners can even game in 1080p.
Lol right off the bat you know every bluray movie plays is 1080, and that's something 360 will never do. Ahhh, can't wait for Dark Knight. It's true though, EVERY PS3 game should be in 1080P so Sony is Dropping the ball there. But as any 360 owner can tell you 720P can look very good. And Wii owners can enjoy new and engaging products such as Wii Fit and Wii music. For them, HD doesn't matter at all.
