Forums - Sales - Why have most of the games bombed shamefully in Japan this gen?

@ Trestres, well by your logic I'd rather game sales just suck all around then only be good on the wii, they're kicking enough ass.

Wow, you are so very selfish. Wanting home console gaming to die, because not all the games will be going to your system of choice. Very sad. If Japanese console gaming dies, it will be a very huge hit towards gaming. Maybe you should just have to accept that HD gaming isn't as viable in Japan as it's the Wii. Games on the Wii have more than double the sales potential, but devs keep on ignoring that fact. When PS2 was the market leader, there was no question about it, as it received more than 95% of all the games. Same should be happening with the Wii, it's only logical but devs keep on ignoring and shitting on the Wii and they are only hurting themselves, since Nintendo has no troubles at all. They can always sell their games on their consoles.

The only solution to the falling home console industry is that devs start making Wii games. If they don't then considering they haven't announced anything else for the HDs in a very long period, it will mean that the only interest they have is portable gaming. We can then be sure that Nintendo killed its home console with its portable one, but it wasnt all their fault, since stubborn and stupid third parties did all they could for it to happen.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Kind of like how you hated Ubisoft and Square Enix because they didn't put quality games on your console of choice?

It's primarily because 220 of said 380 games are on very poorly-performing consoles in Japan - the X360 and PS3.

Since neither console has an amazing userbase, it's kind of hard to sell games when no one owns the system.

Go look at the DS - it's selling games hand over fist, and it's a HANDHELD for crying out loud. It has the user base, and the users are certainly lapping up everything that's made available.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Lol, I hate them because they are releasing shovelware. I don't care if they release 10 AAA games on the HD consoles, what I hate is that they release, specially Ubisoft, unfinished, broken and rushed games. Way to troll man, you succeeded.

mgs4 sold quite well in japan. so would tales of vesperia if it were on ps3.

Most of these games are sequels from ps2. Nothing really surprising, those games are not giving some novelty to their predecessor except better graphics.

The latest Monster Hunter on PSP was a sequel too and is selling like mad. Same with latest Pokemon on DS....

So I don't think Japanese are that selective about sequels and innovations..

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

You contradicted yourself buddy. Why hate them for releasing shovelware or broken games if they release 10 AAA games on HD systems? Oh right, becuase the shovelware is going to your console of choice.

Also, on a side note, you are the first person ever on this site to call me a troll.

Yet neither game holds a candle to what Nintendo has released on the Wii. Had MGS4 released on the Wii, it'd be safe to assume that it may have sold better (same with ToV, obviously).

Most every game (at least that's my assumption) should sell better on the best-selling console. Maybe the Wii doesn't have the right userbase yet, but you'd like to think that it'd give a developer the best chance in Japan, of making money. But unfortunately, we haven't seen many impressive non-Nintendo results. But I think it does prove that if the developer tries, it may be able to do well.
