a lot of atheists arent very nice people and hold a lot of hate towards those who are believers...so i would be hesitant to vote for one.

So just because some atheists "arent very nice people" you would hold all atheists responsible for that? Seriously?

i said a lot...not some.  i wont vote for a hateful person.

Sure, why not. The less in their way of making decisions, the better.

Well, I could point out that you don't vote for PMs in the UK, but I'm not an arse, so I won't.

I know that. I'm trying to make it simple. Besides, people don't really vote for their MP: they look at the party they represent and the Prime Minister.

Like I said, I'm not an arse, and so I didn't point it out.

I said "otherwise well qualified". What I intended was to see if you wouldn't vote for someone just because of their (lack of) religious beliefs. Being an atheist doesn't affect personality one way or the other. After all, all newborn babies possess no religious beliefs...

Of course, religion has nothing to do with politics.

but the prime minister or president could have his/her own opinion on religion which could affect their decisions on certain subjects. if the person hates religion and the believers, he could be making decisions on bias.

If a person actually "hated" a group like this, not many people would vote for them. This thread is only asking if them being an atheist would prevent you from voting for them, not about any other issues that may stem from that

I would, most definately.

I would prefer to vote for an atheist, since their duty would be to serve the country and the public that elected them, rather than serving G-d. But if they were a dick, I wouldn't vote for them. If it was like, 2 twins, that were exactly the same in every single way, except one was an atheist, I'd vote for the atheist. But the chances of that happening are very improbable, and the candidates would most likely have a ton of differences, so the atheism wouldn't affect my decision, and I'd vote based on their qualifications.
