It proves its the year for everybody.
Considering the massive numbers of sales being driven through the registers between hardware/software in the games industry, it seems everyones doing something right and the people who benefit are the consumers, and the producers of the content on all sides must be feeling pretty pleased with the results as they come in. Recession or no recession it looks like we're in for a pretty big end of year blowout.
PC
Computer hardware has never gotten cheaper than it is now, I have never seen such value available in all segments of the market - especially graphics hardware. Anything from a $70 HD 4670 to a $300 1gb 4870 provides great value to purchasers and the same can be said for Nvidia cards also.
Wii
Give the people what they truely want and they'll buy, buy, buy. The fantastic sales of Mario Kart and Wii Fit attest to how Nintendo has found something magical in simplicity.
PS3
The library of games thats coming in the next few months or which has already arrived both finally answers the promise of one E3 not too long ago. It makes one PS3 60gb owner, happy to have owned one since launch and definately justifies such a purchase made long ago.
Xbox 360
What can I say? Microsoft delivered in 2007, and they deliver again in 2008 and cut the price to make it even more affordable to own one of the great consoles of this generation. Games, games, games, movies and horde mode. Making a profit and giving people what they want? Oh its just business as usual.
Tease.
