Forums - Gaming - KZ2 vs Gears 2

Gameplay is king...

What will Killzone 2 have to compete with the following Gears gameplay elements:

- Curb Stomp finishes
- Active Reloads for more damage
- Cover mechanics
- Variety of Weapons - Not Numbers (Saw, Pistols, Automatics, Flamethrowers, Grenaders, Light, etc.)
- Variety of Alien Bad Guys (Little ones, Big Ones, Massive Ones, fast ones, slow ones, exploding ones, etc.)
- Variety of settings (Forest, City, Underground, Snow/Ice)
- Brumak / Reamer Riding
- Vehicle Gameplay
- Multiplayer modes
- Co-op modes
- AI of bad guys
- Storyline and content
- etc.

Hopefully Killzone 2 isn't just a pretty face, but that's all people seem to talk about... I wanna know about its gameplay depth. What differentiates it from Halo, CoD, GoW, Resistance, etc. If it is just graphics then it will flop.

Which is better from a technical standpoint?

This I would have to give to Killzone 2 for one BIG reason, physics. That's something that I think Killzone has always had an edge over Gears on, but regardless Gears 2 is, yes I'll say it again, FANTASTIC!!! Graphics wise Killzone 2 has a bit of an edge, but it should, it's been worked on for soooo long compared to Gears 2.

It dont matter how long the game has been in development for, KillZone2 looks better because its using the ps3s full power.

Yawn.... in my mind, as someone who was currently playing Killzone 2 Beta, there's one game you could stand next to it for "technical" comparisons (such as graphics, physics, animation, lightning, etc) and that is CRYSIS, and ONLY CRYSIS.

damage control thread.

be scared of february when the game unleashed and the reviews start comming it.

it will be fanboy war all over again.

Lol...err... no. Killzone 2 won't flop just because you pointed out some of Gears 2's "variety" and pointed out NONE for Killzone 2. That = fail. Both games have completely different game types. There are plenty of people who could care less for Gears 2's curb stomping and active reloads, just like there are a lot of people who could care less for Killzone 2's first-person cover system and destructible environments. Does this make either game bad ,no, it shows they have two totally different game play elements. From a technical standpoint, IMO, there are elements of Killzone 2 that are not possible on the 360, namely it's physics. But this is pointless as I find plenty of things in Gears 2 that are impressive without bias. As for you, well let's see your gripes about the + of Gears 2 and the - of Killzone 2: Vehicle game play, Killzone 2 has that so cross that one off. There are varied Helghast in Killzone 2 so cross that one off. There will be co-op in Killzone 2 so cross that one off. You know nothing of Killzone 2's storyline to claim who has the advantage so nope cross that off too. Cover mechanics are in Killzone 2 but just in the first person hence (variety) since you seem to think Killzone 2 has none. AI is supposed to be one of Killzone 2's selling points in the campaign so cross that off since you've seen none of Killzone 2's actual AI in a final version. Etc = lol, nice try. So there you have it, Killzone 2 is missing: active reloads, Brumack rides, as far as weapons you don't know ALL of Killzone 2's weapons just yet but sure I'll give you that one along with settings even though once again you HAVE NOT seen all of KZ2's settings. See what I've done here, don't just point out one games variety while excluding the other as having "no variety", it makes you appear bias and I hate labeling people so I'm just going to assume that you just like Gears 2 more which is absolutely fine, it's a fantastic title!!! But before you judge Killzone 2, let it release and then play it :)

wow nice essay pal, what neo said is that if killzone 2 is just grafics then kz2 will flop. and you came out with a term paper that wasn't even relevent

Uuuh clearly you didn't read it which is fine "pal", beacuse he said far more than that. I reminded him that the game is not just about graphics and that it has it's own variety along with Gears 2 which he mentioned NONE of Killzone's goodness while pointing out plenty for Gears and then he starts to claim that if it's all about graphics then it will flop, which IS relevant. I can't help if you chose to ignore the relevant points to my argument which is your problem, not mine.

dude just stop, your entire argument was irrelevent, a relevent argument would be i disagree that If it is just graphics then it will flop because... or i agree that If it is just graphics then it will flop because...  you chose the talking point at least you could do is argue it properly.

Didn't we just have one of these threads?

Killzone 2 isn't going for realistic? oh no, that fails right there. However, considering how DAMN GOOD Gears 2 does look, Killzone does have some MAJOR competition.

^^ I like this statement,  realistic, truthful, and intelligent!

In the end, as previously stated, it is a matter of preference.  I am loving Gears 2 though!!

I'm with you Truth, Gears 2 = best shooter this gen so far IMO. And thanks for the compliment bro  :)

I'm also with these 2. Also I will add it's hardly fair to comapre a game which I have witnessed on a 1080p 42" tv and one that Ive only seen in low res internet videos. Up to this point Gears 2 is the best looking console game. But when KZ2 is released that could change. Regardless, when KZ2 is out, the 2 wont be far from each other. Whichever way it swings.

its not about defending anybody, its about arguing the points, which you have not. Embarassing myself? Dude you can't even drop a conversation in which you failed in. Talking to you is like talking to Bill o'Rielly. You think your so right its pethetic
