Forums - Website Topics - Tracking Online Retailers

I was wondering how VGChartz tracks online retailers such as Amazon, Newegg, and Walmart.com.

I was just checking out game prices on Newegg and they have the lowest prices for brand new games. $3-8 below retail price, no tax, free shipping. Seems to be a great place to buy games, so I was wondering how VGChartz compensates for online sales, or do they not?

Only post if you know the answer.

they dont...

i think.

I know.

We track all sales and interest through the VGChartz Amazon store (which also helps provide income for the site, so buy here instead of amazon ) Other than that, there are no direct numbers from online stores that I'm aware of.

Also, they track them just like they track all other stores they don't get direct numbers for. For example, ioi may not get actual sales figures from ToysRus, and they have some really good deals (buy 2 get 1 free), but they are included in the figures by extrapolating what he does recieve to cover the whole market.

So the figures on the site aren't "forgetting" any sales from any store, be it online or physical retail store.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
