Does anyone here know why developers aren't doing local multiplayer as much anymore? It's a bloody brilliant idea, and we've had it since 1994, so what gives?

there's plenty of games that still do local multiplayer. some even do local multiplayer + online play simultaneously. While the emphasis is now most certainly on online MP, there's still lots of great local MP games. Off the top of my head: LittleBigPlanet, Gears of War, Warhawk, Resistance, Halo 3, Boom Blox, Pixeljunk Monsters, Mario Kart, etc.

Sorry for being unclear. I was referring to local multi-player in FPSs. Granted that there are some exceptions, but it used to be mandatory; now it's the exception rather than the rule.

@yushire:

Thanks for the link.

 Sad but true, seem most games today relies more on online than on local and splitscreen multiplayer. Atleast the Wii changed that too bad about COD: WAW though...

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.
