I'm not sure. I certainly wouldn't go with GTA4 though, since it's more about game play, and the storyline is simplistic. I do however like how Super Smash Brothers Brawl incorporated a storyline in the one player mode. That definitely made things a bit more interesting.

If I had to go with a good storyline though, I would say Fable 2 from what little I played.
