Forums - Microsoft - Gears 2 Multiplayer completly broken :(

I fully understand what your saying, it really is awkward at first when your so used to the first Gears, but after a while its not bad, lots of new things in the game and options in the multiplayer but when your used to the old game its not easy to go with less freedom for choosing the game type you wanna play.

My favorite games for this gen:

1. Gears of War    2. MGS4    3. Killzone 2   4. Halo 3(Underated by many)      5. Mass Effect

That's dissapointing - I only buy games that have good a multiplayer or high replayability value.

Hopefully it gets fixed, though the devs might not even consider it to be "broken" =/

I don't play multiplayer games.

The exception would be fighters.

That said, I buy shooters for their campaigns.

That's probably why my "top shooters" list is different than everyone elses.

thank you for your life story

Letting it slide because you're new...but you don't wanna be posting like that...to me.

For future reference, if you have something snarky to say about one of my posts, don't.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Nice so It looks like Resistance 2 has at least one thing better then Gears 2 that nobody can argue. Multiplayer because R2 multiplayer is very nice sexy time.

That sucks.

So I finally got my GOW2 from Amazon in the mail today. I have to hold back playing Campaign cause me and my roomie beat 1 together and will do the same for 2. Now that doesnt matter as Ive spent countless hours playing Gears 1 multiplayer. So I might as well jump in to it. The game plays exactly the same for the most part but.........

You MUST play a game via the auto teammate selector, unless you have friends. You can join any on-line game that is not set to private, just as you could before.  You can also switch teams by hitting the "Y" button (it puts an icon indicating you want to switch).

Your game must have all players and only 5 rounds.  Wrong and wrong.  Bots can be chosen to complete out the 5 and 5, but are not necessary.  Hosts selects the number of rounds, I've played as few as 5 as many as 10 to a match.

You have limited choice as to what level you play.  Host option can select the level; there are 10 new maps and 5 re-made original ones.  Depending on the host, you either vote to select, or host decides.

You cant choose to play execution or warzone individually, the type of game you play is voted at the beginning of the round  This is hosts option, they can set it to vote, or they can choose themselves.  Just as in every other multi-player game.

Auto Team select seems to take no consideration as to how a persons connection is(I was in a game with some guy in ALASKA and I am in NY). Some games are great for me others are complete garbage.  Game matching is based on relative player skill and not location.  Connection quality is NOT only influenced by your distance from the host.  I've connected better to folks in San Francisco than I have to folks in Houston and I live in San Antonio.

Im really let down and this game needs a HUGE patch ASAP, which I do not see coming for at least a few months. If I were a game reviewer I would not give this game even close to what the Gears 1 score is(IMO the beef of Gears 1 is the MP). Is anyone else crushed about the way gears MP turned out?  Multiplayer set-up is different, but nowhere near as bas as you stated above, sorry, maybe you didn't play long enough to figure it out?

EDIT: You also cannot quit a match once you are in without turning off the system. I thought it was messing up but its just bad design. I understand they dont encourage people leaving games, but when Im lagged to hell why would I stick around.  Wrong again, you can leave any game at any time.  When playing ranked, that is a douche thing to do, but it can be done.  Start, then quit, works, though you could just hit the guide button and exit to the dashboard.  Are you sure you played this game?

EDIT 2: apparently no friendly fire matches, which I love in all my MP Shooters.  Wrong again, friendly fire is an option set at the beginning of the game.

EDIT3: If there are 2 full teams in a room and every player from one team leaves the game still starts and every round goes to the team with players.  This has not happened to me, so I can't say.  No offense, but judging from how you were wrong on every single item you've posted above, I'd have to see this, to believe it.

No offense man, but please see my comments above; you have misinformed anyone who has not actually played this game yet.  Multiplayer set-up and specifically the lobby HAVE changed, but the differences are nowhere near as bad as you claim, they are just different.

Multiplayer versus matches do differ in many ways from Gears 1; stopping power affects how you play the game, the roadie-run shotgun and two-piece have been removed and tactical grenades are a major addition.  The new weapons add great flavor as well.

Good luck figuring these things out, if you honestly want to enjoy this game, though I have to be honest, I'm not sure how you missed all those things I noted above.

the quality is great, but the matchmaking system really sucks and a lot of functions, such as quiting the match and team kill, are missing. I am sure that epic will fix ASAP coz tons of players are complaining about these things in different forums.Epic once said that gamer reviews were important to them.I think they are working on it.

Multiplayer works just fine for me, and my buds. Played Horde, is amazing, and a blast. Epic constantly takes into considerations the voice of the fans and makes adjustments. Mulit-player issues are luckily one of those things that can be patched, if needed. Hopefully some of the concerns voiced here will be dealt with.

@ Leo-J,.......As for Gears 2 scores being higher than R2, unfortunately reviews are individual opinions. Regarding the lower listed scores, R2 had technical issues and a disappointing single player campaign (for some). That has been the resounding reflective statement made by the R2 reviewers, as well as several members of this site who own the game. R2 is amazing! But comparing Gears 2 to R2 is a losing battle it seems.

R2's multi-player is stellar, but not significant enough to rate a higher score than Gears 2. Gears 2 has been touted as the best looking game so far this Gen (opinions/reviews), as well as having one of the most enjoyable single player campaigns (I know, I know, until KZ2, ect., we shall see), and a good multi-player system. Any shortcoming the multi-player may or may not have, was not enough to discount it's awesomeness and higher reviews. Many will disagree, but that's the nature of things.
