If a system lasts 10 years, its a 10 year system. If it lasts 2 years, its a 2 year system. Only shills, suckups and suckers care about marketing buzzwords like "10 year system" or "future proof." (Or "new gen," or whatever.)
PS2 will be a 10-12 year system. It likely will be discontinued while its still selling rather well because it will be hard to cost reduce enough, just like happened to PS1. (PS1 would still be outselling Gamecube if it hadn't been discontinued.)
