I ve always dedicated  my life to videogames. Since the very late 70s and early 80s, videogames have filled every night of my existence. I still have in my house an intellivision, a magnavox, a vic 20, a commodore 16, a commodore 64 and 128, a spectrum 48k, many pcs, an Amiga 2000, a playstion1, ps2, a dreamcast and now a ps3. I think I can be considered an hardcore gamer..

I must admit that i ve never liked nintendo brand and all that kind of games, but i ve always appreciated some games like zelda and mario.

But now, it is for me impossible to understand why wii is selling so much. I tried and tried againg to understand what's happening in these years but unfortunately I 'm not able to undestand why someone has fun with nintendo wii.

Maybe i'm becoming old (i am 35) but it's hard for me to enjoy myself with a console with that graphic, with those title (i hate wii sports)...and i'm disappointed bacause maybe i'm losing something important of this generation.

i'm very enthusiastic of my ps3..I can play some good games (in this period mgs4, wipeout, fallout3, lbp) i can watch blu ray (on my 52" lcd it is spectacular) i can use internet in my sitting room, i can listen music and watch all my 5000 photos on a big screen.. Now i'm waiting killzone, resistance, Re5...and i think the future will be brighter..

but when i see my nephew playing with her wii, i still continue to not understand...maybe if I were 7 years old and I lived in the 80s, wii would be a fantastic console...unfortunately almost 30 years have passed.

so what's wrong with me?

You will get a lot of answers, but the main one is because there is really only one console out there for kids 12 and under right now... the wii!

There are a ton of young gamers and the hd consoles might be a lot to handle for what could in many cases be their very first video game console.

We grew up with games, so the choice is simple.... play the best.

But to a much larger audience the choice becomes... play what you can, play what doesn't use 2 analog sticks (this throws a lot of new comers off), and play what your parents will buy you for Christmas.

These people dont own cars, they cant even get into a PG-13 movie in many cases.

These are the consumers of the Nintendo wii.

The problem is that you are a douche. I don't call people who don't play games on everything they can get their hands on for hardcore gamers, as you seem to think you are. The Wii is great because it's something new and because it has fun games. It's that simple.

Impossible. The person in question seems he doesn't own a single Nintendo console. Tons of games on Nintendo consoles (made by Nintendo or not) are considered to be some of the best ever, so there goes that theory. In fact, if he never had an NES --> GC, there's no excuse for avoiding the Wii, since it plays games from all its old generations.

Seriously though, the quality of games is all preference. This "Wii is for kids" meme is silly. Have you considered graphics aren't that important to most people? Wii owners can argue the HD consoles are stuck with "last-gen" controls. What do you think of the DS against the PSP, I wonder?

Many users on this site are fans of the Wii (and no, they aren't 7 years old). Browse their games collections, and look into the games if you're so curious.
