Forums - Gaming - Fix that Franchise!

I'm surprised no one said Sonic yet.

Sega should have the balls to just change the main console Sonic franchise back to 2D and perfect what a 2D game can be instead of trying to make it some 3D crapshoot.

Put your money on making it look like an amazing 2D game with great art and sprites and such and forget about 3D or even just go 3D sidescrolling and focus on that.

I dunno but I think it would cost them less money too and if they can make the game a very long, fun and well made experience people will buy it even if it is 2D, I know the old Sonic fans would.

But I don't see them taking this risk ever. Really Sega has been going downhill lately, if you have an Xbox or 360 go check out some Sega games that came to that system and you will see how much talent they have over there or just pop in VF5 on your PS3 and see how they can make great games. I think a lack of vision is the problem not a lack of talent, unless most of the guys who made the great gams left which would be even worse...

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Zelda: Link gets captured by Ganon. This time, Princess Zelda has to save him. It tells the story of how she saves Link (and the world, of course) from Ganon's wrath.

For once, the name "Legend of Zelda" would finally make sense. Aren't legends usually about the hero and not about the damsel in distress?

Sonic needs another game like Secret Rings, but with improved controls. Not necessarily on rails, but in a fairly narrow environment so as to solve camera issues without taking away the game's sense of speed.

Less focus on collecting and solving puzzles (like in Sonic '06) is also a must.

Get rid of all the excess characters, and focus on Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Eggman. The others can make appearances, but I seriously get sick of playing as Big the Cat.

Less Amy Rose=more win.

We also need less focus on storylines. No one plays Sonic for the story. Better voice actors and sound tracks would help a lot too.

Someone did....lol.

No doubt Sonic is certainly a franchise that has not survived the transition into 3D.  I think collecting rings just isn't that fun anymore.  At the time Sonic was amazing because of the speed at which it played.  It was the first game MADE for ADD kids.  That speed doesn't really transfer over to open 3D environments.  For this reason Sonic remains on rails in its 3d incarnations (I'm sure there are exceptions).  Crash already did this.  Doesn't Crash even look a little like the blue hedgehog?  And look where that got Crash?  Even Naughty Dog left him behind to make the far better Jak and Daxter series (on the shoulders of Crash's move set).  So I'm not sure that Sonic can be rebooted or fixed.  We'll se how the current RPG project fares, but I'm skeptical.

Snow White, Repunzel, Sleeping Beauty.  I rest my case.

In TP she really wasn't much of a character at all though... almost the entire plot was about Midna (which I didn't mind, it was a nice change).

I think Sonic is the most obvious choice here. Good to know that SEGA is letting some big guns attempt to breathe life back into him (Bioware.)

You know, it seems to me that most of the games I can think of never went bad per say, they just stopped making sequels. Now I could list a bunch of titles if that was the prerequisite.

lol... you got me there. But doesn't anyone else find it weird that the games tell a story of a great warrior and don't even mention his name? They call it the legend of zelda?

No it's not weird at all because the hero doesn't even HAVE a name.

Currently Playing: Skies of Arcadia Legends (GC), Dragon Quest IV (DS)

They tried that.  On the CD-i.  Good lord, was that a train wreck of a game.

Simple, 3d 3rd person Metroid Prime!!!

I want to see a PS3 game based on SouthPark, it would be an anime fighting game with as realistic graphics as possible and all the SP characters would look like they did in episode 801 "Good Times with Weapons" (you know where butters got a ninja star stuck in his eye so they glued dog hair to him and took him to the vet so their parents wouldn't know they had purchased ninja weapons and then in the end cartman tried to sneak across the stage at the fair naked because he was convinced he had the power of invisibility...this might actually be the longest parenthetic statement ever)
