"You said, NG2 was held by the DVD size, you've been reasoned against. Waiting for a reply yet."

One of the reasons Itagaki was unhappy with the 360 was the size of data that its disks could hold. He blamed it for not allowing him to put all that he wanted into Dead or Alive 4. I believe he would also say it was one of the things that held back NG II, and it is one of the reasons he left Techno. Those were two early complaints he raised against the 360 in its earliest days. He wanted to make larger more cinematic games and the DVD 9 was going to hold him back.

so you had to go through all this just to make a point about NG2....in a banjo thread?? speaks volumes about some people on this site...

triplebph Valkyria Chronicles is made by the same team behind Skies of Arcadia. Any true gamer that had a DC or wasn't fanboy enough that they would look at other system games and appreciate their greatness should know, Valkyria Chronicles will do well.

No, I had to go through all that to show Bitmap Frogs that Itagaki was disappointed in the fact that the 360 dvd drive would not allow him to make the more cinematic type games that he wanted to make (and that is going to pose a problem for 360 FFXIII and 360 MGS 4 unless they really scale back the quality of the cinematics in the 360 versions. Note, in that article, Itagaki says that to get just the three or four minute Dead or Alive 4 trailer on the 360 disc in a quality that was acceptable to him it would take 2 gig of the disc's 9 gig data, now imagine trying to do that with games that have hours and hours of pre-rendered movies like MGS 4 or FFXIII and the number of discs that would take); and because it was requested that I issue a rebuttal to Zen's post on the first page. I guess that taking the time to do so just shows that I'm highly courteous. And I did discuss Banjo.

So you assume that NGII was held back by the DVD format based on an interview that was published nearly three years before the release of said game, even after Itagaki himself described it as the "definitive" NG title?  I'd say you're on pretty shaky ground, there.

And he quit the company the very week that the game released. And have you heard anything about him being interested in making any new 360 games lately?

He quit the company because of unpaid bonuses and conflict with management.  And this is relevant, how exactly?  He seems to have shown more interest in portable games than anything, lately.

If you want to cherry-pick old interviews, I can do that too:

"GI: You’ve said before you want to develop for the most powerful console out there. You must be pretty confident in the Xbox 360.

Itagaki: Yes. I hope so. I think Xbox 360 is the best game console on the earth. It’s better than PlayStation 3.

GI: Can I ask you why?

Itagaki: PS3 has too complicated of architecture."

Do we know what those conflicts were over? Sure it can be said that they were over the unpaid bonuses. But if you look at what he says in that article, one begins to think there were other reasons. He says that he was wanting to make cinematic games of the type that are popular in Japan and that the 360's dvd 9's just didn't give him the space to make those kinds of games. Read the article in it says, "I was wanting to make cinematic games that would require much more space than is available on dvd to have them in the quality that I wanted them to be in. I thought the 360 was going to have this type of medium though I didn't know for sure (but I was led to believe that it would), when my team found out that it was just going to use dvds we were really knocked out."

That is almost word for word what he says. I guess he did have a deal to make two 360 games and they were Dead or Alive 4 and Ninja Gaiden II and as soon as they were done, he quit. I believe it was over the storage medium and how it effected the quality of games he was able to deliver. In light of recent comments like those from John Carmack about Rage and MS' licensing fees for multiple disc games, I don't think that it is too much of a stretch to say the dvd 9s and the conflict that they had with Itagaki's visions for his games had a great deal to do with his departure from Techno.

Your entire argument is based on an article that is over three years old, since which time Itagaki has made numerous pro-360 statements (even after leaving Tecmo, in fact).  You need to work on some better material.

And yes, we do know that the conflicts were over unpaid bonuses, because he sued the company for them.  Is that not a clear enough indication?

Yes, but you see he hasn't been signed up to develop any PS3 games since he left Techno either.

He doesn't want to work on the 360 because of the limitations of the disc sizes and he doesn't want to work on the PS3 because of the complexity of its architecture. He might make a Wii game because one article that I've read about him says he was impressed with the new level of interaction that the Wii can bring to games but the same article also says that he wants to be able to work on the most powerful console on the market.

It could be that we won't see anything new from Itagaki till the next gen.
