I'm kinda glad I never played the originals.

I love this game. Reading someone hate on it is like hearing about someone picking on your younger brother. Makes me wanna cry :(

The problem is that Bethesda took an absolutely ingenious idea and turned the franchise into your basic, run-of-the-mill WRPG.

The original series had elements that were way ahead of their time. The first two games were basically free-for-alls that allowed you to do whatever you wanted. Shit, I don't think I ever beat either game. It wasn't important. I was busy doing other, more fun, things instead. That was the charm of the series. Now Bethesda has turned it into Mass Effect crossed with Oblivion; the only problem is that they don't have the skill to make a Bioware game. Fallout 3 is lacking things that even KOTOR had, such as character change... Why on Earth doesn't my character change at all in this game depending on my actions and whether I find it funny to jump into a radiation pool when I get bored? Why don't I turn into a ghoul when I hang out in the wrong areas for too long?

And this game should not be first person. It should be third person, a la Mass Effect. A good part of an RPGs enjoyment comes from seeing your character evolve through physical change, clothing changes, and weapon upgrades. This isn't about immersion, this is about your character's travels through a world. If you can't see that character and his/her changes, something is missing.

Oh, I'm with you there. I nearly always play in third person mode. About the only thing I'll use a first person view for is picking up objects because picking things up in third person mode is borked. Also, I'll add, I'm with you for the same reasons. Particularly if I'm running around in one of the subways where things just jump out at you and frighten the living s*** out of you, I'll switch to third person mode because a  first person view is just too immersive. I *want* to be distanced from the action. I want it to be my character (Waxley) running around and not me.

FYI: There is a quest involving getting mutated from radiation. I assume you haven't actually got that far to where you mutate :-p

Or maybe you missed it, entirely.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Hit LB.

And for all their flaws, Bethesda does have one thing going for them that Black Isle doesn't. They're still making video games.

The dedication you show to any particular console or company is inversely proportional to the number of times you have gotten laid. If you get laid enough, even if you prefer a certain brand, you just don't give enough of a shit to argue about it on the internet.

If he blew up ****** he can't do that quest =p.

Third person is nearly broken in Fallout. Not as bad as Oblivion, but not good.

I'm coming off harsh on this game. I like it and I'm enjoying most of my time with it. It's just... missing something. There's an emptiness there I can't really put my finger on.

BTW Fro, I'm going to finally be back online in about two weeks after I move... We badly need a Gears co-op playthrough.

Eh, my budget is lacking so I probably won't have Gears before Christmas, if then.

I'm also caving and resubbing to WoW for the expansion tonight, if only to get more time occupied to keep me from buying all that other games that I'm on the fence about. 15 bucks for a month of WoW is better for my wallet than spending the 240-300 bucks it would take in other games to eat up a comparable amount of time. Once I finally get Gears though, I'm definitely up for a playthrough.

That's cool. We can wait until the new year. It will take me awhile to get settled in anyway.

As for WoW... I'm terribly disappointed in you, Fro. That game is just... just... UGH. MMOs are such a timesink.

Yeah, I know. I'd been clean from WoW for half a year, but the siren's call of new content made me buckle. I'm guessing two months and I'll be done with it again for a while.
