.......No.
*runs away*
I don't know, Mario All-Stars was a given to platformer fans. Orange Box features a singleplayer game, a "different" singleplayer game and an awesome but not common multiplayer game. All-Stars pleased platforming fans and no one would want a single game from it, but there could be people that wanted just Portal, or TF2, so I stay with All-Stars. yeah, All-Stars.
the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!
All-Stars. Seroiosuly 4 of the best games of all time? Just FF Box would be better :D
I'd probably give it up for The Orange Box for having a little more variety, largely because of Team Fortress 2, which has a lot of big distinctions between itself, and almost every other shooter ever made.
If the Orange Box didn't have TF2, I'd actually say Mario All-Stars. The question did say, for it's time, and at the time there were no downloadable services for old NES game or backwards compatibility in the SNES. Having a compilation of three of the most classic NES games on one cartridge for the newest system at the time was huge. In addition to the graphical improvements, and a much demanded save system, Mario All-Stars also introduced The Lost Levels (Jap. SMB2) to the US. An ultimate challenge to die-hard Mario fans.
It depends. All Stars wins if it's the version with Super Mario World in it (which still boggles my mind, Super Mario Bros. 1, 2, 3 and Lost Levels all remade with battery save and Super Mario World all on one cartridge).
Yikes... tough question. I happen to love both. I'd probably go with All Stars though as I love every game in that collection. Some of the Orange box games just aren't for me.
Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.
I am a huge fan of Mario Allstars but I've got to say that the Orange Box is a much better deal.

Even tho Portal was a brilliant innovation in its own right, i'll give the tip to SMA because i found myself playing those games a lot more than Orange box all together
