Um maybe because wii fit IS NOT A GAME, not even a casual game.
Guitar hero is a game, wii fit is a peripheral.
Um maybe because wii fit IS NOT A GAME, not even a casual game.
Guitar hero is a game, wii fit is a peripheral.
I thought the answer was obvious but apparently some don't understand or haven't played Guitar Hero.
Guitar Hero is exactly the kind of game that appeals both to casuals and to hardcore gamers. If you play it at low difficulty it is perfect for casual gamers, on the other other hand if you invest time the game gets really skill based and it definitely takes lots of play and practice to master the game at the higher difficulties.
Also, Guitar Hero is a game because you have a series of objectives and scores and the main focus of the game is beating content to advance and unlock more content as you would in other games but instead of levels you got songs.
Wii Fit the main objective is fitness not progress in the game, there is score keeping and such in some of the Wii Fit 'games' but it's not the objective of playing it. There is no gaming skill or improvement envolved but rather improvement in fitness and exercise and yoga or whatever...
Add on top of that, that guitar hero while having a guitar shaped peripheral, is still really a game where you press buttons to try and defeat objectives as in traditional games, even if it is the case that the contoller is not in the normal shape.
Did you ever consider rythm games not to be games before? No. Do you consider EBA not a game simply because it is you tapping to music? no.
Wii Sports is a game, not a traditonal game, but it is a game because the objective most of the time is to defeat your oponent. Wii Fit is a collection of fitness routines and very few things that could possibly pass as games (like the soccer game).
On the other hand, DDR is a game just not a video game. That is a dancing game, the software and machine is only there to keep score of your movements and 'dancing' and isn't essential to the experience but adds to it.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!
Wii Fit = Casual
Its intuitive, and uses "normal body motions". Pretty much anyone can follow the on screen instructions, and be able to "play" the game.
Guitar Hero = ??? (not casual, not hardcore... music?)
Requires a fair amount of dexterity in your fingers. Unless you are versed in this sort of action (i.e. guitar player, regular game player) it would appear to be difficult - enough to turn most people off from playing/trying.
...
My parents could play WiiFit (and have played WiiSports). My parents could never play Guitar Hero. It would simply intimidate them too much to even try.
Its all about the complexity of the input devices - rather than anything to do with the game itself.
Guitar Hero intimidates me - enough to stop me from playing it (and when I do play - I generally suck).
(and with that - I'm off interstate for the weekend. See you all in a couple of days!!).
Gesta Non Verba
Nocturnal is helping companies get cheaper game ratings in Australia:

My boss plays Guitar Hero.
And that is my only input into this thread.
(though I should mention he is NOT a gamer as otherwise the statement doesn't really matter).
To cash in my CC rewards points for $300 in Circuit City gift cards to purchase a 360 or not: That is the question.
Hardcore gamers have largely themselves to blame. Neglecting Nintendo was perfectly justified when their cart format drove developers away, but to ignore the GC, when it was just as capable as the other systems (except for disc capacity), just showed Nintendo that the hardcore market had abandoned THEM.
So Wii Fit might not even be here if hardcore gamers had been ACTUALLY BUYING Nintendo's hardcore games.
It's still not too late. How many of you with Wii's are planing on buying Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn? This is the latest in the oldest strategy RPGs, so you can't get much more hardcore than that. Imagine if it sold a million in North America alone. Think that just might convince Nintendo to support hardcore gamers more, since hardcore gamers would be supporting them IN RETURN?
BTW, sorry for the allcaps. This is a quick reply, as I like that it has a spellcheck.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

I would say it is based on the difficulty curve if anything. Your grandmother could NEVER beat a Guitar Hero song on expert, period. They are games that appeal to casual gamers though. GH just does a good job of appealing to both.
Edit - GH looks badass when you first see it, Wii Fit just makes me feel uncomfortable after seeing it and retarded for playing an exercise game when I could just as easily go to the gym.
We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke
It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...." Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson
Speaking of Guitar Hero...Play With Me on expert in Guitar Hero: Rock the 80s is INTENSE! Such a fun song.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release. (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
Those guitar games exactly like guitar hero have been around and very popular in japan for 10 years, and finally caught on in America by someone who decided to give it a chance that's all.
currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X
You guys are all right, because it is subjective. It is scaled for different experience/skill levels and it is a game that many people play that don't play many other games. I think the real question is: why don't hard core gamers "hate on it"?
I figure the public hate for Guitar Hero (and more Hate for DDR) will be when it is the most successful on Wii this time around. Either that, or every one will have converted to Nintendo by then.
I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

I spent most of the 24 hours after I got the game (and unlocked Play With Me) trying to beat it. Only beaten it once.
