For those of you stuck in the 80's with VHS, the time is now to move into the 90's and early part of the new millennium. There are numerous advantages of DVD over VHS. Every  have your favorite movie get eaten by the VCR? That will never happen to DVD's. They're like CD's but with movies on them!

The cases are smaller than VHS cases so you can hold more movies in less space. And DVD's look better than VHS too! Many movies have 5.1 sound and feature Digital Dolby and/or DTS sound. And you haven't lived until you've seen porn on disc versus video cassette.

With DVD, watch the movies the way directors wanted you to see them in all their non HD glory!

Actually most directors have a hard-on for Blu-Ray. They tend to be the videophile type. Even Spieldberg jumped onboard, and he took forever to come around to DVD.

funny thread. Like it, but I must say VHS tapes are much more resistant to scratches and grubby little fingers than DVDs.

The problem with VHS is that the tape actually degrades over time and loses a lot of its quality.

My main complaint about DVD besides the lower picture quality is the scratchability. This is really one of my favorite things about Blu-Rays, how scratch resistant they are. Its just a beautiful thing.

My main problem with Blu-Ray is that there's only one movie in my top 20 thats on it. It is my number 1. Arlington Road, but I'd never invest in a new medium for 1 movie.

Actually, I remember talking to this older lady maybe about 50-60ish(and a pretty big movie fan) and she said that she still uses VHS tapes. She was thinking about possibly buying a dvd player. I was pretty surprised! haha
