Forums - Gaming - Guitar Hero Iv or Rock Band 2?

I would go with Rock Band 2. I am enjoying Guitar Hero: World Tour, but this game is kinda short. I beat it less than a week or so. I mean what I like about Rock Band is it has a huge load of DLC on the marketplace.

Choose Rock Band 2. Especially because of the guitar, drums and mic.

I am leaning towards Rock Band 2, but I would still like my questions answered before I make any kind of decision

Okay, I haven't got a lot of experience with the rythm games here, so I am going to ask some basic questions:

It seems to me that Rock Band 2 is the best rythm game around (consensus of the internet). But if I buy RB2, can I still play the songs with only one instrument? As in, could I buy the game and a guitar controller and still have great fun?

Also, I live in europe and own a PS3. Is there any info at all, on when we might get RB2 here?

There also seems to be talk that the periphirals of GH:WT are of better build quality than those of RB2. Is there anything in RB2 that you can't do on GH:WT hardware? (As in, "best rythm game + best rythm periphirals = win?"/I want to buy the best game and the best peripherals)

1) Yes you can play the game solo if you want. If you want Rock Band 2 and just a guitar. You can do that but your not getting the sole experience. Rock Band is meant to have people play with all the instructments. But if you want to play solo with the guitar you can.

2) According Wikipedia and I know they are no reliable source, they list the game for the PS3 to release in Europe on January 30, 2009.

3) Both equipment are the same and they work awesome. It's just Guitar Hero: World Tour comes with symbols now and really that's it. The only problem that Rock Band had with the original was the kick pedal, but now the equipment that is with Rock Band 2 is better and more reliable.

So both are worth your money but feature wise Rock Band 2 beats Guitar Hero: World Tour. Rock Band 2 is certainly worth the $190 its asking for.

Imo the squareness of the notes in RB throws me off @_@

Doesn't the RB2 game work with GHWT instruments, or is that just for the Wii versions?

Nintendo still doomed?
Feel free to add me on 3DS or Switch! (PM me if you do ^-^)

I believe you can on all systems, use Rock Band guitar in Guitar Hero: World Tour and vice-versa but when it comes to drums they both use to different sets. Guitar Hero: World Tour comes with symbols, so some songs will require you to have the symbols.

I play RB/GH quite often with a group of friends just about every week. I've put countless hours into both series. RB has definitely become our defacto choice for get togethers. TBH after playing RB2 for so long I was pretty disappointed in just about everything GH:WT had to offer.

The character creation was both too complex and lacking in variety.
The whole band setup and song unlocking process was archaic and poorly designed
Music selection had tons of repeats from RB library or just alternate songs from the same artists
Graphics & animations compared to RB seemed sub-par. The "redesigns" of the classic GH characters looked horrid.
And to top it off the defining feature (GHTunes) had terrible sound quality

My brother-in-law bought the game for us to play at launch because his wife has always liked the GH series more and I think we've picked it up only a handful of times since then. Instrument quality is a tossup. I like the GH guitars more than RB and I'm not a real big drum player so I can't say which I like more for those.

Okay, thanks everyone.
I think I will get Rock Band 2 when it comes out on PS3 in EU, get a guitar or two with it, and get the rest of the instruments later on.

Rock Band has its Killer App in the form of Pearl Jam's TEN album releasing in March of 09. This is not even close, Rock Band's DLC and forward compatibility with future Rockband (ie. Songs import) put GT Hero to shame. You have to buy new standalone games like the Metalllica one that is coming out to get half of what Rock band is providing.
