So Mario is Nintendos mascot.Wii is its platform.

If Sony would have mascot like it had Spyro and Crash in old times, would we see Crash Bandicoot Cart PS3 or Spyro and Crash at olympic games?

Well Mario is the most well known person in the world (real or fictional). And the Wii series are games for everyone on a console that is a sales phenomenum so this is to be expected.

Congrats to the best game on Wii being able to break into the top 8 without Wii or Mario in its name (although Mario is a playable character). I think it would have sold at least 1.5 million more by now if it was called Super Mario Smash Brawl.

Mario is the largest property in gaming. Of course it's going to sell well haha. And the Wii series is something that is seen as a "must own" for obvious reasons by wii buyers. So it's just good marketing right now.

All Nintendo needs to make now is a game called "Mario Wii" and it will sell a bajillion copies.

My girlfriend is getting a Wii and I'm sure she'll stick to Mario and Wii titles at first since you know they'll be quality, fun, and accessible to all.

Sony has Rachet & Clank (and Jak and Dextar) but I doubt they'll ever make Sony's top 10. The PS3 has a different userbase than the PS2 enjoyed.

To be fair... these franchises weren't really that big on the PS2 either. The two Gran Turismo games were the only Sony first-party games that even cracked the top 25 in PS2 software sales. When 23 out of the top 25 games are from third-parties, it's pretty safe to say that's why people were buying the PS2.

The top sellers shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Despite its greater success than GC or N64, the Wii is a typical Nintendo console in that it is dominated by 1st party software and suffers from slim pickings when it comes to 3rd party software outside of a few gems.

Nintendo is one of the few developers who initially put a lot of resources in to Wii development. Then came the flood of shovel ware. I expect to see a slightly different looking list in a ear or so.
