Ninty would need to branch out into a couple more (unrelated?) markets before they could consider taking spots #2 or #1 - on a permanent basis. Maybe something like cell phones or PDA's.

I can't see any reason why they couldn't release a souped-up DS model as a PDA, with a bunch of extra features.  For business people, and Ninty fans would also get one. Then they could release "pure" business software.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the recent climb of Nintendo from out of the top 10 to 5th shows you how quickly these rankings for 'largest' company change so hold your horses Nintendo fanboys before calling world domination...

You're right. A company can change rank pretty quick. Nintendo proves you can climb up the list quickly. Sony proves you can fall off the list quickly.

And they are rising in another ranking as well, during this year, their brand value went up 19 % and they are now on place 44 in the list of of the best global brands. Number one is Coca-Cola, btw.
