Yeah, though I think it was more fear than troop morale! Though in WWI they did hopeless, Germany would have gained a huge amount of land had it not been defeated by France, UK and US.

We already have a WW III, but it is an assymetric conflict where a large part of the actors cannot be defined as nation states. I'm lazy as hell now, not spending a lot of energy to elaborate, but other versions 'could' be the decline of the US empire and with that loss of Pax Americana. But I honestly don't know if that would make the would more insecure or more secure.

@OP: Don't mean to nit-pick, but don't you mean WW5?

My reasoning is this: Cold War = WWIII. "War on Terrorism" = WW4. Next worldwide conflict = WW5.

I see WW5 happening if America is crippled militarily. Iran (or another Arab nation) will attack Israel and Nations will choose sides. Russia and China will likely be with the Arabs. Euro nations will be split between the two. America will hopefully be behind Israel but if they are at a state where this would happen to begin with... it might not help much. Pakistan will look to make a grab at the chaos. But the end will be Armageddon... Russia/China marches to make LARGE grabs of power in the area and the end result will be catastrophic.

Are these the same economists who couldn't see far enough ahead in the future to stop the current financial crisis?

Seriously, such projections are just... downright silly. Who knows what could happen during then. I mean what's going to happen to China's government while all this economic progress is happening?
