The only way a World War is going to happen, is if the US lost its military might.

Aside from that (and it could be done in a mass scale nuclear attack), there never will be a world war.

The US is so far ahead of any other military. People don't realize how amazingly powerful the US military is. They know it's the best, but it's far better then the second best. (The British)

2nd best is the British????

The Chinese would rape the UK.

China, Russia vs EU, US.   Some how nukes need to be taken off the playing field for this to ever happen

China wouldn't get remotely near the British Islands...

China has very little troop projection ability.

The PLAN is improving... but it would be no match for the British.

I'm not even sure they have Aircraft Carriers yet.... and without Aircraft Carries your going to have a hard time fighting a modern naval battle.

Basically in a war between the two the British navy would contain the Chinese and keep them stuck at home, while the british could bomb at will... with little recourse for the Chinese.

The PRC has one inoperable Soviet aircraft carrier. They have a fairly capable submarine force, however.

True... but that's about all they have.  That and Destroyers which... are ok but not great alone.

I mean, maybe they could slip through with a ballistic sub or two and nuke the British isles.  But i think it'd be against them.

Admittidly though with the way the royal navy is going... it may actually turn out that "swarm" tactics could win the day after a while, since the British i believe are cutting down their navy.

Not true, the UK Navy has recently put into production a new type of destroyer, and 2 super carriers with the same F-35 planes the US uses.

Also, the reason China hasn't been an agressor is that for ages they were inder Imperial rule, and so we've only really got the last 100 years to look at, and given at how much they were under attack by Japan, it's no suprise they havent invaded anywhere obviously. However, they have subtly taken over Taiwan, Tibet and Mongolia with very little fighting. Also, they have provided aid to fellow communist contries like North Korea.

Also, perhaps one of the major reasons China has little decent weaponry is because of things like this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Union_arms_embargo_on_the_People%27s_Republic_of_China

Effectively prohibiting any military technology of EU origin making it's way into China.

I meant that China only had destroyers.  They've got about like 40 destoryers,  a fleet of subs, then like... some frigates which really wouldn't be of too much practical use.

That was just in reference to your bit about the UK navy slimming down. But subs could definately do some damage, I know ours could! Being the only  nukes we have left

It is slimming down though.  They seem to have been adopting a "Less ships, but better ships" policy.  Which is fine and all, but could prove a problem vs a mass of inferior yet... just large number of ships.

Well I only really know a lot about the supercarriers, and we currently have 2 small ones (only 8 Harriers each!) and a spare, and they're being replaced by 2 comparitively large (35 whole planes ) carriers, so in terms of numbers it's basically the same.

However in relation to our navy, this always makes me smile:

Ironically, she could carry more aircraft than our current ones

World War III would be a long drawn out conflict. USA, Britain, Germany and rest of Europe would destroy the communists/terrorists. Russia, Iran and China would be the enemies.
Amazing that Germany are an Allied Force. In the first two world wars it was Germany versus the rest of the world.

It won't matter even if it is slimming down.  The UK will still be a high-tech and capable force to be reckoned with.  Plus with a strategic alliance with the US, a combination US/UK battlegroup consisting of the new Queen Elizabeth and Ford class super-carriers, destroyers and subs will be a force nobody will want to mess with :D

We should worry about them lobster men attacking us from the deep instead of us nuking ourselves.

I won't get into complexities. I simply believe it will play out just like the fall of Rome. America will be crippled by the very problems we have been ignoring so long at home and in our weekness dozens of nations will attack us inside and out. ITs happened before and it will happen again.

I was watching the series Rome with my father recently and he said the very same thing.  Corruption has always been rampant in politics and the way I see it, it will always be this way just like the tide; high tide and low tide.

With the way things are in the world scene today, I see outside influences dragging this country into war to either defend other countries, interests, etc.  It's only a question of how and where.  I hope it's not during my tour of duty D:

The US should definitely worry much more about its structural weaknesses than about a war which isn't likely. By structural weaknesses I mean things like over-dependence on oil (which won't be curbed any time soon). The whole world is dependent on oil, but the US even more so.

Low oil prices are actually making this problem worse by disencouraging investment in new drilling and alternative energies. This together with the world's financial crisis looks like a perfect storm. The financial crisis is completely masking the energy problem which may only resurface when economies try to recover.

Why do guys from USA always like to talk about war and how they would own the rest of the world? It annoys me, and maybe thats one of the reasons people dont like you, at least now with Obama the rest of the world wont have to fear a stupid guy like Bush wanting to atack a country thats on the other side of the world claiming the defense of his country.
And I hope if there another WW soon, everyone that fights gets owned by each other and get dominated by small countries like mine xD

There are stark differences between Rome, the British Empire, and the United States. The US' power may decrease relative to other nations, but it is not going to collapse and cease to exist like former world powers.
