Wait what? So when Obama is elected USA will not be USA anymore?

No it's still the USA because it's still a two party system.

China... a one party system likely won't be able to stay one party if their economic growth keeps increasing at the rates Manus talks about... because said economic growth eventually will have to spread out, and there is already growing disfavor with the party among those who are profiting.

Eventually there will be an opposition party that will force great change in the government reverting it to a real democracy, thereby changing the country.  Just how the Peoples Republic of China is not recognized as the China that existed before the communists took over.

(See the UN where PRC inherted the rights to China, and where Russia inhereted the rights of the USSR.)

Not to mention numerous other problems they'd have to overcome even if they managed to stay one party... some of which jackson has listed.

I really wonder how democracy will work there with their 100 of different languages/cultures and even religions. If Belgium haves problems with only two major regions I really see it fail in China for sure.

then perhaps...china needs to fail.  if china can only work when it dominates its people, then it doesnt deserve to exist.

So when they finally get democracy and they fail you say they deserve it?   Just admit that you just want that all countries of the world fail except yours....   Serious I never met a closed minded person like you and I am F***** happy that their are not many Pitcairns in the world....Oh lord would the world then be a bad place...

India, despite its linguistic, ethnic, and religious diversity, has been a fairly stable democracy. There have been certain periods such as the emergency rule during the mid 70s, but it has been a consistently stable democracy.

I don't really know much about India though.  I only saw today on the news that India has a lot of problems aswell between the regions (They talked about it on the news because the Belgian Queen is there at the moment).

Haha, I leave the thread alone for a day to find that it has turned into a mud-slinging fest aimed at China.

I have always been a critic of their government and am secretly hoping that one day there will be an uprising to topple their authoritarian gov and finally make fair for the people. It makes me sick some of the things that go on in that country. Falun Gong anyone?

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.

that would be great for that to happen but, for the world's economy needs china to be an authoritarian gov't for cheap labor. if the people did up rise and take the gov't down and go to an democracy then prices for all goods go through the roof world wide and we all would be in a world depression. So, really we need china to stay the way they are!!! sad to say.

Nah the prices already rise up as hell. Some already moving their factories to India I expect that in the future more and more will follow.

The PRC is slowly and steadily progressing to a democracy. It may not be noticeable to most people, but it is transforming itself through grassroots democracy. Instead of a trickle down effect where democracy is first practiced at the central level, it is more of a trickle up effect where democracy is practiced at the local level. Now, I am not saying the PRC is a young unconsolidated democracy, but the seeds have been planted.

My world War three scenario invovles the U.S. economy collapsing from being destroyed by massive deficit spending on military research and budget. The sheer amount of weapons and tech available to the U.S. force is alarming, besides that, my main concern is that the crazy spending on the defense budget will eventually bankrupt us, especially by reduced tax income. Look at the increases during the last five years of the defense budget, not including war funding which isn't typically part of the overall budget. If I recall this years defense budget was around 660 billion. I wish I knew more about the defense necessities of the united states, but to me that seems quite astronomical. Any thoughts on the growing defense budget for the war on terror? I mean I want to be as "safe" as the next guy, but I really think it's a ruse to redistribute wealth to the defense industry.

Quick Comparsion:

from wikipedia:

"US Navy: This is a List of current ships of the United States Navy. There are more than 400 ships believed to be in active service with the United States Navy, on reserve, or under construction, based on public reports compiled in this list. This list includes both US Navy owned and leased ships; both ships that are formally commissioned and other ships that are used by the US Navy without the ceremony of commissioning. In addition, some planned ships and some recently stricken ships are listed further below."

A better breakdown as the 400 is misleading:
"There are currently 13 aircraft carriers, 22 cruisers, 63 destroyers, two littoral combat ships, 31 frigates, 11 amphibious assault ships, two amphibious command ships, 13 amphibious transport docks, 12 dock landing ships, 61 attack submarines, 18 ballistic missile submarines, 14 mine countermeasures ships, eight patrol boats, and one technical research ship "

Now the Russkies:

"Aircraft Carriers (1) : 1 Admiral Kuznetsov class
6 Aircraft carriers planned for the future.[4]
Battlecruisers (2) : 2 Kirov class
Cruisers (5) : 3 Slava class cruiser, 2 kara class cruiser
Destroyers (21) : 8 Udaloy class destroyer ,12 Sovremenny class, 1 Kashin class destroyer
Frigates (8)
Corvettes (49)"

They only have numbers in corvettes which are rather small and more maneuverable, the US is making a quasi corvette class with
Littoral Combat Ship -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Littoral_combat_ship

Just looking at the comparisons is hilarious. Not to mention the U.S.'s tech is far better maintained and newer.

Fun fact: we have the only nuclear powered aircraft carriers aside from France's DuGalle

Also we are coming out with a new carrier class: Gerald Ford
Bigger Badder and more Expensive:We will be ready for those fucking aliens!!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerald_R._Ford_class_aircraft_carrier

Thoughts?

Edit: The Gerald Ford class is supposed to save money because it will require 400 less personal and 30% less maintenance. Anyway still interesting to see

I agree... but will they allow themselves to change up top?  The old guard surely is going to struggle against the changing.
