There's no hate, we are just saying it's over rated (which is just an opinion). It got 10/10 on pretty much every major site, so people were expecting close to perfection. I don't blame Rockstar, I blame the reviewers for being easily swayed.

Well, maybe I'll disagree with you too...but for my PC has to run GTA IV when it comes out. Stupid Rockstar and it's bloated SysReqs

What did you hate on that game BTW?

Everything, starting from the design by Toriyama (I hate Dragon Ball, and playing this I couldn't but see that all the characters were DB lookalikes), the battle system, which offered almost zero customization (I hate when they set you, like, "this is the healer, this is the tough guy who's a tank, etc.", developing the weapon skills wasn't enough for me to feel like I was developing the characters) and besides it was awfully basic, there wasn't anything very deep except maybe the trance (was it called that way?), and finally the story, which was...awful, I thought the time where RPGs had the plot "this is the bad guy, he looks stupid, we're after him" was over, all you do in the story is go to a place to look for the clues of where Dhoulmagus is, help the villager in need, get clues and then keep looking in the next place. I want stories full of twists. The characters (except maybe Yangus) are terribly shallow, nobody's interesting, you have the womanizer, the rich girl's who's rebelling and wants to see the world, the villain who's stupid but wants to destroy the world because he has power and the silent hero who's as plain as a table (I'm not criticizing him for being silent, but I've seen a lot of silent chars show a lot of emotion and this one does not).

I dunno, maybe I was expecting too much of the game, maybe if I thought I was gonna play "just another game" I wouldn't hate it so much

Had you played any of the previous DQ/DW games? They've always had Toriyama designs, and VIII is really a great sequel in the series. It's probably just not your thing, I guess.

The other Toriyama game I played is Chrono Trigger, I guess the design didn't bother me much there since, well, it's mostly sprite based

In my opinion, Metal Gear Solid 3. I deplored that game. I never understood why that game received so much praise.
