 Announced at Comic-Con today, Microsoft have cut the price of their 360 HD-DVD drive from USD$199 to $179. As an extra sweetener, they're also going to be offering five free HD-DVDs to anyone picking one up (though you've only got 15 to choose from, and it's a mail-order dealio). Which should be the most exciting announcement they made, but hey, it's the HD-DVD drive.

@NJ5 are you predicting the PS3 to sell more than 6.5 million now after the price cut, because you cross out that last bit...

Offtopic but... I didn't change my prediction for months. Sony has said it's no price cut, so they have to stand. Price cut means a model under $499, which will likely not happen until Christmas. I now think it may be pretty close or even a bit above my prediction, but not by much.

How this helps the HDDVD format is beyond me its still $179 for a drive that only plays movies and the people who wanted one have probably got one because it was already priced at below the $200 sweet spot.

Don't forget the 5 movies offer, that should help sales of the HD-DVD player a bit.

True but thats with the standard players and with Blu-ray players and the PS3.

The free movies are also with Blu-ray and Blu-ray has more titles but costs slightly more but the main blockbusters are on Blu-ray.
