imitating the competition is simply giving the competition free advertising.
-1 for Microsoft

Atleast the mac ads were telling the consumer something about the product, the PC ads kinda are just microsoft not combating any of the accusations thrown at them by Apple and just trying to change their image.

The information inside the Apple ads is not what makes them memorable. I would bet over 90% of people that watch the Apple ads couldn't recall any of the relevant info inside the ad six months later, but many could still identify there was a chubby nerd guy and that actor from Die Hard as representations of the respective brands. Microsoft is cutting to what matters in advertising, and that is either a catchy line or catchy image, not an infomercial.
As far as the booths go, that is some funny stuff. I hope they show up in front of Apple stores where I am so I can bring the popcorn and watch the two brands beat on each other.
Its funny cause in the movie the Die Hard character looked like the kind of guy who would hate Macs if he was real.
We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke
It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...." Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Definitely. Those Seinfeld ads were hilarious though, but the message was far too vague overall for the common man to retain it. "I'm a PC" is a catchy phrase, and the fact that they're getting real people in on the advertising like that is smart. My personal favorite from the new one is "I'm a PC and I like pancakes". Hilarious.

Heh yeah I agree about the pancake dude too. Cracked me up. Instead of wasting time with these, they need to make some commercials or marketing campaigns that highlight some fundamental differences in their operating system that makes it worth owning over it's competition such as practicality with business applications, mass appeal to a worldwide audience and brand-name recognition. I'm curious though on how their new OS their working on now will turn out.

I hate mac ads.
i cannot believe people actually buy into that stuff. I am not argueing whether or not mac or good or whatever, but there commericals are retarded. But they work, so people fall for the "this is cool" marketing very quickly.... Obama seems to have taken a page from apple on this one... darnit... I almost made it a whole post..
