Well, I'm not sure but I think a drug is a substance that does something to your physiology. As previously stated, not all drugs are addictive (it's even called drug-store...) and not all things addictive are drugs.

Sex is a drug because it's addictive!

Look how wrong that statement is.

Most addictions are bad, making you less a part of the real world. World of Warcraft can be extremely bad. But it doesn't alter your physiology.

Does anyone even know what "figure of speech" is anymore?

I don't really know how to respond to this. I thought that World of Warcraft was generally accepted to be bad for people's social life, even dangerously addictive sometimes. So for me, that puts the entire question into the "not figure of speech" category.

I would say that "it's like a drug", not "it's a drug". But I guess if the difference isn't important to you, by all means, say it's a drug.

ROFL that is generalizing the tale of a few people.

Most people don't stop their social life because they play Wow..

A suggestion would be for you to re-read my post with new perspectives: Trying to see what it actually says, and trying to see what I mean to get across. Don't worry, I'm not really offended. Just a bit frustrated that neither you nor the Jman understands my point.

To illustrate why your post is a bad reply:
"I thought that World of Warcraft was generally accepted to be bad for people's social life" - Me
"Most people don't stop their social life because they play Wow.." - Ail

Ail, please understand that what I said is by no means a contradiction to what you said. There's many out there who can probably balance their playing and their social life. What I'm saying is that I feel that the general view is that many people are addicted to online games, with World of Warcraft as the prime example.

If that is the general view, or at least I think it is, then the question of "Is World of Warcraft a drug?" seems sort of like asking "Is the world a circle?" and therefore needs an answer in kind. I mean, what's worse then a full thread of yay-answers? If there's nothing to discuss, why is there a proposed discussion?

Only trying to explain my original answer...

No, it's a game.
Cocaine is a drug.
