"[WII] Tenchu 4: 13000 (NEW)"

is this any good?

We had a 5 page discussion on last week's Japanese numbers about this, when First Day sales were announced of 10,000 units.

I say it's bad, and well below what a mainline Tenchu game can sell (since #3 sold 200k+), but Wii supporters argued that Tenchu games have been on the decline, since the DS game did poorly (no available numbers), the X360 game (Tenchu Z) sold less than that (12k) it's entire lifespan.

So take of it what you will. But Tenchu PSP sold 28,000 back in 2005, and ended up with 70,000 which seems far more than What Tenchu 4 will sell on the Wii. So take it for what you want, but I think it's well underneath what it could, and should, of done.

In other points of interest (to me):

  • Girls Mode has insane legs from FD sales, and will easily hit 250k LTD, if not more.
  • Wii Sports/Fit have massive drops. It looks like Wii Music has supplanted them as the go-to title to buy with the system. This may be a good thing for Wii Music when Wii sales jump in November/December.
  • PS3 sales have reached the worst level....Ever. Fortunately, this will be the last week (for awhile) that sales are that bad. Expect it to jump to 10k+ next week, and sustain said levels the rest of the year.
  • X360 sales are continuing to be just awesome. Although still pitiful in the global picture vs. the Wii and PS3 LTD's, the X360 has made a massive turnaround from 4 months ago. It's hovered around the 7k/wk area the entire month, which speaks incredible volumes about how well future X360 titles will do. TLR is going to be HUGE.

The 360 has had the big rep of being a big software seller, but what are these new 360 owners buying? Surely not games. Last week, the 360 sold less software than hardware.

One of the issues is that used X360 games are being heavily traded/sold, which is hurting the sale of newer titles. Tales of Vesperia was (to my knowledge) one of the best-selling used games, as it was definately in demand for used games - as is Infinite Undiscovery.

There's a massive back library of X360 games in Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Ace Combat 6, DMC, SM5, and other J-centric games that are available, and mostly used copies that I think gamers are picking up as opposed to buying new, which Famitsu tracks.

Nice chart. So it looks like the wii version is selling more then the Non-Playsation games, but selling much less than the older playstation games.

Percentages
Wii: 13 000/6 910 000 = 0.333%
PS2: 250 000/ 20 000 000 =1.25 %
Xbox360 12000/ 500000 = 2.5 %
PSP 70000/8000000 = 0.9%

Obviously these number are not to be taken too seriously.
