Forums - General Discussion - What's your opinion on Oprah Winfrey?

I know various people with various opinions on this powerful woman. Some say she's their idol, others claim that she's the Anti-Christ. Me? I lay somewhere in the middle, but what about you guys?

who is oprah??
is it you??

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

She's alright. Her show gets kind of repetitive, and can be way too melodramatic, but she's harmless. Every now and then she has some pretty interesting segments.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Sure, why not. /b/ gave me a good laugh with the "over 9000 penises raping little children" vid. I still remember going to oprah.com and watching as all of the /b/tards invaded and mocked the naive mothers who took it seriously, heh.

Everything Akuma said holds true for me as well, including the mom thing.

Oprah, I don't see anything of it (don't have a TV here) and thus hardly affects me. The opposite becomes true when she does a bookreport though, and all those gullible idiots start buying "the secret". To me the biggest hoax in self-help books in recent history. The only thread she is, is to the wallet of gullible women.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Oprah is one of the most powerful people in the World today, and like most powerful people she uses her power to run her own agenda ... For the most part her agenda is pretty harmless or somewhat good, but (like all agendas) it is not designed with your best interests in mind and will conflict with something you believe in.
