Forums - Microsoft - Finially, Sony's David Reeves isn't alone,

I think this is not so stupid a comment, and not unreasonable spin on the face of a bad situation.

It's not as though the 360 failure rate was unknown among many gamers. I suspect many of us (like Wotjas and me) were reluctant to buy for that reason. The extended warranty gives some reassurance that if it does happen, we won't be completely screwed.

That said, the extention also called out the defect to the less involved gamers who might not have been aware , and it sure as hell would have been better for them to fix the problem rather than just slap a bandage on it.

Overly optimistic yes, but not yet reaching high levels of feet-shooting stupidity as David Reeves does...

It's positive for someone buying an Xbox360, positive for Microsoft because they look like they are offering a really good value warranty but also negative for Microsoft because a copnsole that now breaks down after 1-3 years is now replaced for free and therefore not another sale is not made which is what the consumer might do if it hadn't a 3 year warranty and why Sony's PS2 sold so many; repeat sales after breakdown.

I'd say having a PS3 or Wii with ~1% failure rate is more comforting that a three year warranty :P

Put that doesn't really make much sense, especially as the RRoD has become so well known now.
