Forums - General Discussion - Another typical group of McCain supporters in Denver.

The little girl at the beginning is really disturbing. Its such a shame that Republicans teach hate to their children.

(restrains himself)

The Democratic Party may have plenty of loonies in it, but they don't embrace ignorance like the GOP does. These people are just plain pitiful, and notice you don't see a minority among them. The Real America is apparently only the White America. I'm white, and I get so sick of white people sometimes. If I am around too many I feel like they are going to sell me insurance or something, and I get really nervous.

This is why the Republican party has disintegrated, because the rank and file members are anti-intellectuals, and your true fiscal conservatives who don't fall into the evangelical or southern block no longer see eye to eye with these people. The rank and file don't fully trust McCain but love someone like Palin, and your true fiscal conservatives like McCain but can't stand Palin.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

"He's a stupid bum"

Best quote ever.

Really though, that girl at the start was just so sad and disturbing.

Another one of these evil/stupid-typical-McCain-supporters threads? Didn't we already have one of these today?

So saying someone looks like a monkey is on the same level as pejoritavely claiming someone is a Muslim, a socialist, a communist, a terrorist, and not an American?

Are these not typical McCain supporters? If you don't think so, I'd be most interested to read one thing these people said which you don't agree with.

The muslim charge, for one.  And, of course, while I would think he has socialistic leanings, he's not a full blown communist.  And anyways, they're riled up, at a rally, enthusiastic.  I'm not saying that all of them were completely level-headed, but at a rally I would suspect that's where you would find crazies.

But yes, typically, Republicans teach their children to hate people they disagree with... Now was that really necessary?  Do you have to castigate the whole lot as evil?

I would appreciate it if you would assume intellectual honesty on a whole for us (that's what democracy does, right?), there are Republicans on this site, too.

Because the entire 'monkey' thing is generally considered highly racist. Its been used for years as a way of implying that black people aren't quite human, they're on the level of apes rather than of humans.

If you think that its ridiculous to say that then you haven't been watching sports, in basketball, cricket and football (and probably others but I know those three for certain) spectators have done the entire monkey thing to black players they don't like.

Clearly when done to Bush its just as offensive (its implying that he is sub-human and stupid) but it doesn't have any of the racist connotations.

Plus, it wasn't only her ridiculous monkey impression that was offensive about her - it was also the stuff she said afterwards.
