Let the haters rejoice, when 2009 arrives and with it big announcements for the Wii a lot of damage control and a new different excuse will appear.

From my perspective it's only the smaller Japanese companies that are really lining up behind the Wii in Japan. It's pretty obvious why they're doing it since they rely so heavily on Japan for sales of their games. A large majority of those games will either never come to the West or if they do they will have little impact.

The bigger developers on the other hand realize that the Wii isn't the PS2 (for third parties) and are looking to build their presence outside of Japan in order to make up for the Wii's domination of Japan. It's pretty obvious what is happening when you listen to someone from Square Enix, Konami, etc, talk about focusing their games on the West.

What some people here seem to be hoping for (that the Wii will become for third party major exclusives what the PS2 was), I just don't see happening and I think those that do think it's going to happen are only fooling themselves.

It's funny how this exact same message was said for 2008...  I remember arguing with people that claimed E3 2008 would see the Wii dominate major third party games then it was TGS 2008.  Good luck next year... I'm sure I'll read posts then with people claiming 2010 will be the year.

It's only going to happen if the Wii manages to gain 3rd party support, which really doesn't seem to be happening at all right now. Of course this won't happen until 3rd party games start selling well on the Wii which will happen after good 3rd party games are made for the Wii which hinges on the Wii's ability to sell 3rd party software. Ahhh the vicious cycle.

We'll see.

3rd parties would come if nintendo support 3rd parties so they will have no excuse to put a games on there system like a large HDD, better internet system, what ever disk format that is major at that time and total support of hd going up to 1080p or higher if thats the future and hd sound.

Nintendo like to invent everything on there own terms which is how we got FC but i do like the controller. lol but it was needed for 3d gaming.

Fact is that Nintendo will release a new console system with a little better graphics than ps3/360 have right now. The technology will be so cheap they will be able to make money off the system from day one. They are gaining 3rd party support back lately and will hopefully continue to improve their relationship with them. I hope to see better quality 3rd party games on current Wii and next system. There are a few excellent 3rd party games but Nintendo games still dominate the sales on their systems. I am just waiting for the next F-Zero mainly......

Well said Soriku. People need to read our posts in this thread and realize the real situation is far from what they think. HD gaming is dead in Japan. Save for the really old announcements there's been nothing new for the HD's recently. Only Ninja Blade and Demons Soul (Both first party published).

Wii is the way to go in Japan for devs, end of story.

Seems to me DS is more the way to go and that's what they have been doing, mostly ditching the console market ...
