Forums - Sony - David Reeves: This Christmas Not That Critical

Well saying this year isn't as important as next year is kind of a goofy way of selling your systems...

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I'm sorry but at the current rate PS3 will barely hit 10 million sold by the time Christmas '08 begins. Meanwhile Nintendo will be approaching 30 million. I don't see Sony coming back from a lead like that.

Sony needs to pick up their game and they need to do it NOW.

Dude dont even type that. Sony will probally be going on 15 million. Maybe even more. Not just because im a Sony fan but...

1. Christmas this year and all the big games.

2. MGS4 early next year (Worldwide)

3. Killzone early next year

4. FFXIII early next year (Japan maybe US late next year)

5. Many other big titles coming next.

Your post holds no evidence that Nintendo will be going on 30 million by then. Your pretty much basing it off of that it stays sold out til then. Which isnt very likely.

Hey, you didn't read my post at all did you. Right there, first sentence, right after "I'm sorry, but" and before "PS3 will barely hit 10 million" were the words "at the current rate". Of course, you can add your own fanboy speculation (everyone will decide that the Wii is a fad and it won't break 20 mil, MGS4 will sell 5 million extra consoles) all you want, but that was not the point I was making. Of course, in general, the second year on the market is stronger than the first year, especailly for a console that performs will over its lifetime. However, rather than predicting future trends (too much) I based my assumptions on the current performance of both consoles.

So I'll type whatever I want.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

I don't think this Christmas is necessarily the most critical one - I think that's going to be Christmas 08.

He never said 07 is not important.
He did not say he does not care about it,
he simply gave his opinion that 08 is the MOST CRUCIAL ONE.

READ what he said before you cry about it.

Way to throw a tantrum over NOTHING.

The only people arguably "crying" or "throwing tantrums" are those fighting the posting of this article to begin with. It's a simple article that speaks for itself and its no real surprise that certain members come running immediately to Sony's defense in response to its posting. Either way your response is in itself a bit "much", unless you wish to be one of those accused of "crying" or "throwing tantrums" in this thread you should be less agressive and more constructive. While there is a great deal of validity to your interpretation of the announcement to just simply dismiss any differing views comes across as petty, rude, and yes, "fanboy-ish". Please don't be an element that turns this into a flame thread.

I agree the PS3 may be higher than 10mil by then as well, but in all fairness none of the PS3's big name titles so far have done much for its sales and none of these big name franchise exclusives have sold enough games with their last instalments to give the PS3 what it really needs with their far more expensive sequels. There's not a single person I haven't talked to at a single gamestore (clerk or customer) that isn't convince MGS4 is comming to the 360 as well (whether true or not) and if FFXII only sold 5 million on a console with an console instal base of 100 million plus, I don't see FFXIII turning the PS3 around. Gran Turismo is pretty much in the same boat as FFXIII.

Also, 30 million might be a bit high, but its not without evidence especially with developers flocking to Nintendo in droves and more games to keep the causal "non-gamer" market snatching them up.

For Japan they are big. FFXII sold around 5 million already and thats with a 40 dallor price tag which is really impressive (Well cause its FF its not as impressive). You can expect it to sell about a million to 2 million more. Plus the best selling game last gen sold around 15 million copys. compairing that to FFXII thats about 1/3 so you cant say that game wont help Sony out in a big way. Out of the top 5 most wanted games 4 are coming to the PS3 and 3 are expected to come out early 08 (jAPAN)

2. FFXIII

4. MGS4

5. Monster Hunter 3 (No details on this game yet and its already number 5)

This is true but Japan alone really isn't enough to make these games anymore powerful than I see them becomming. All you did was take the Ps3's instalation base, divide it by three then claim that one third is going to make a greater difference than the WW sales in total. You're by no means wrong in your optimism or opinion, but when I was talking WW sales to begin, I don't see Japan's love for particular franchises mattering that much when their figures were already taken into consideration to comparing upcomming franchise instalments to their predicessors.

Aaaaahhh. I really think it is admirable that Sony and MS both have no regards for profit and just want to make great games and consoles, and are willing to lose billions for us. How sweet.

Btw, if you believe the crap that either company says about sales/profits then I have some great investments for you to get in on.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Or they are annoyed with half the threads being nothing but wii fanboys taking words out of context to shiet on the PS3.

Your obviously bias posts turn threads into flame wars, you trying to act all unbias is freaking hilarious.

Pleace dont trool anymore.

No comapny is in for losing money. If Sony is losing money already and can afford to make a price cut they are making money somewhere else.

Christmas '07 is going to be Nintendo and Sony's second Christmas season and Microsoft's third. Christmas '08 is going to be about halfway through the general life expectancy of all three consoles.

Sony obviously has big plans for 2008 and that Christmas will likely be their big showing for the PS3 across its lifetime.

However, that said, this is almost definitely Sony covering their tracks by saying "It's okay, we weren't going to win it this year anyway." after all the bad press and third-party departures lately.
