objectivly it is going to be either Galaxy or Halo, but my personal game of the year will be either Phantom Hourglass or Metroid Prime Corruption
But there is no doubt in my mind that Phantom Hourglass will be Handheld Game of the Year
Well, while Wii Sports was my GOTY last year, I think many sites went the way of Gears of War. I believe it received many awards across many categories.
Zelda got many awards for story, while Wii Sports got a ton of awards for innovation.
Ah, oops, good point. As i'v been away for a few days, ckmlb, you're now a mod are you?

Ah yes, Gears of War won a ton of awards too...I was trying to think of what game it was...hard to believe it came out last year...seems longer. Gears of War and Zelda got a lot of GOTY awards, and Wii Sports got a lot of awards for innovation.

I think by logic, the lead candidate should be Mass Effect because if that game delivers on what it's promising it would be GOTY hands down. I'm not so sure about GTA. From what it seems they are taking a huge leap with this one, and I would bet that they still have some tricks up their sleeves. We'll see, I still have high hopes for Uncharted and would prefer it to be the breakaway title of the year.
Do they have soundtrack of the year awards? If all the songs on GTA are half as good as that Boggs cut it's soundtrack should be awesome!
There are just to many freakin great ames this year, oh and at Ben:
"I'm a bit disappointed with Assassin's Creed's combat, to be honest." that is exactly what I thought when I saw the video of the player fighting six enemys at the same time, but the rest of the game really impressed me (and I´m a sucker for hystory based games) but maybe there will be mainly one on one combat which looked pretty good so I´m still going to get this game eventually (give me the falcon MS....do it.....do it...dooo it) even if its just to take a walk around medieval Jerusalem,
so if I had any say in what games look best (up till now) I´d say:
SMG
Halo 3
GTA 4
Mass Effect
@ tispower: yes ckmlb is a mod now as is fishamaphone (has been a little longer but was gone for a long walk), hell even I was a mod but I banned every user but me and changed the charts so it looked like the Dreamcast was winning, and so my 15 minutes of f(sh)ame ended,
