MS hit with Red Ring of Death lawsuit

Microsoft is facing a lawsuit over Xbox 360 failure rates and the infamous Red Ring of Death.
Filed in the States, the suit claims that an excessive number of 360s have been subject to system failure, and that MS hid the extent of the console's problems in order to better compete with PS3 and Wii.
As well as seeking damages, the class action suit hopes to force Microsoft to introduce a refund programme for 360s in the state of California.
The news comes shortly after a number of fresh reports about 360 failure rates, including this one by Xbox guru and journalist Dean Takahashi, which says that just three months before the console's November 2005 launch MS team members reported overheating graphics chips, cracking heat sinks and a problem with the DVD drive, among other things.
Some reports even allege that more than 50 percent of the original 360s launched were defective. We've been through more than a handful of 360s already, so we sympathise with those of you that have experienced the dreaded RROD.
Microsoft did acknowledge some of the console's problems back in 2007, and decided to extend Xbox 360 warranties at a potential cost of over $1 billion, but that's clearly not enough for some people.
