Is this good news? When was the last time Atari made a good game? This will likely get pooped out unfinished like Alone in the Dark. Sorry to say.

Publish != Develop

I know what you're getting at, and I was just refuting it with a different approach. My point is that if a year can turn gameplay/physics to be "old" then we're pretty much rocking Commodore 64s when it comes to the visual end. In other words, I think you're going a little overboard on the doom & gloom because the game wont be out till next year. Hell, maybe it'll give the devs enough time to figure out that they don't have to use such cheesy models for the Wii version

The point isn't that it's a single year. It's another year. They didn't start development yesterday you know.

It's not doom and gloom at all, it's a statement of fact. There are likely development teams in various companies attempting to get their own awesome physics engines to work even now. The longer it's put off, the less stunning it will be relative to other games coming out.

Also, you do know that the Wii version isn't even being made by the same people as the PS360 version right? The PS3/360 version is being made by Terminal Reality whereas the Wii version is being made by Red Fly Studio (makers of Mushroom Men).

Yup, am aware of the difference of developers, which makes me question the art direction on the Wii version, since Mushroom Men has a lot crisper graphics. Yet I digress.

When did we first hear of the Ghostbusters project? Spring of 08? I think its reasonable for the project to take 2-3 years, as most games do. As for other devs making their own engines, for every 1 that is, 4 are licensing other people's engines. There's little use in making your own engine these days, as it sucks up financial and personel resources.

Mushroom Men is also their leading title and unique IP it would seem.  It's not surprising to see it getting most of the special attention compared to an outsourced version of a game from Terminal Reality.

As for developers having little use in making their own engines, I guess Nintendo is doing it all wrong.  You should go tell them.

You should know better than to make a point using a first person party. How about the other guys? Like Capcom continuing to utilize the RE4 engine, as one example?

"First person party?"  ^_^

Anyway, if the bigger companies are doing it then it must have some value.  It's just not feasible for everyone.

Gah! Christ, Im turning into Cammie! LULZ

You're right, its great to have your own engine, but as you also said, sometimes the cost//time difference is major.
