Irrelevant, irrelevant, irrelevant, and irrelevant. Again I say this isn't a rumor. This is getting blown way out of proportion though. This isn't "MGS4 coming to the 360!!!!!11111." This is "a credible company heard Konami executives mention they are looking at how feesible a 360 port of MGS4 might be." There is a huge difference between the two.

Exactly. This is a rumor of MGS4 coming to the 360. Still a rumor.

Did you actually read what I wrote or just type out a random response because you felt you had to have the last word? I'll repeat the relevant parts in bold. This isn't "MGS4 coming to the 360!!!!!11111." This is "a credible company heard Konami executives mention they are looking at how feesible a 360 port of MGS4 might be." There is a huge difference between the two.

So basically, an unnamed "credible company" says they heard Konami executives talking about how feasable MGS4 on 360 could be? Yeah that's totally not word of mouth at all.

Oh? and how are those news being treated? they have the same treatment as the rumors we had before. It's blown out of proportion, yes. Just like before - am I right? the questions I asked you are to point out that a port is unreasonable, and this will not happen anyway. JUST LIKE BEFORE.

"We're actively looking into a [Metal Gear Solid 4] release for the Xbox 360," a Konami rep told Japanese investment research firm Morningstar for a TGS report published today (in Japanese).

Shamelessly stolen from the front page of joystiq.com No, not some random unnamed company. A named company that put out the information on their website. Please do the bare minimum research required before attacking my points. I hate having to reply 3,000 times to a topic because someone never bothered to get the widely publicized information that is being talked about.

Which boils down to Hideo Kojima, who hates Xbox360.

First off, no Kojima does not hate the 360 as he is actually looking to make a 360 game. Secondly, no it does not come down to him as he does not own the rights to the game. It comes down to the Konami executives who greenlight projects.

Why would Hideo Kojima repeatedly refuse offers to put Metal Gear Solid 4 on Xbox360 then? Why did he split from Konami developers and make Kojima Productions after Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance went to Xbox? Also, source for Hideo making a game on Xbox360.

I agree it is being blown out of proportion and used to start new rumors of MGS4 on the 360. That isn't the point I am disputing though. Also, I could actually spin the last two questions into thoughts of it being pro-360 if I really wanted to (and have it make sense) but again those questions are largely irrelevant due to either a lack of data or just not affecting future prospects. How many times was it rumored that FF13 would go to the 360? Less times yes, but it did eventually happen. I have my doubts about it happening for several reasons, but thats really neither here nor there.

Honestly, I just don't see a 360 release of Metal Gear Solid 4 making Konami a profit.

The game would essentially have to be completely redesigned, compressed, and even some parts of the game such as Metal Gear Online and the comment about blu-ray would need to be removed for it to be released on DVD. Naturally, all of this takes time, money, and resources and of course this would all have to be done without the help or approval of Hideo Kojima since he and much of his team will be busy working on new projects. Furthermore, probably at least 80% of the demographic that would purchase Metal Gear Solid 4 have already done so on the PS3 and of the remaining 20% that haven't, a good deal probably wouldn't settle for a gimped 360 version.

very good analysis, but mgs4 on the 360 would still make money so it may be a risk worth taking.

Like I said, I'm really not so sure that Konami would make money. I mean, consider all the costs. Konami would have to assemble a talented team to completely redesign the game from being built from the ground up for using the Cell processor, somehow find a way to compress roughly 50GB of data onto a sensible number of 7GB discs (Keep in mind that any essential data such as character animations and reocurring sounds, voiceclips, etc will need to duplicated onto every disc), and rework the new raw data to take advantage of the 360's hardware to make it comparable to the PS3 version. There is also the costs of manufacturing multiple discs for every copy of the game and the small extra costs of a few cents with each adds up when you're selling hundreds of thousands of copies. Between these few points alone, bringing MGS4 to 360 would likely cost at least several million dollars.

Assuming MGS4 was released on 360, it would have to sell hundreds of thousands of copies at the full $60 price-point and likely with less features than the PS3 version, just for Konami to break even. That's hundreds of thousands outside of the 4 million PS3 versions that would likely have been sold by the time a 360 version was available. And all this on a system with virtually zero presence with the franchise no less. Hell, even if Konami did miraculously manage to gain some profit off of the 360 version, it will be so small that it wouldn't be worth going against Kojima's wishes and turning their back on Sony to do it.

"GP: Is MGS4 still planned as an exclusive PS3 game? Do you have any interest in Xbox 360 development?

Kojima: Well, yes, I do have strong interest in creating something for the Xbox 360. In the US and Europe, it is selling, and I think it will sell a lot this year as well. I'm a fan of Gears of War as well, it's very interesting. Frankly speaking, I want to create something on the PC. It's a multi-platform [format]. I've been regularly studying work on the PC anyways, and I want to provide something as a world-wide platform because of the consequences with timing on the PlayStation platforms, MGS4 is actually for the PS3 only so far."

You would have to ask someone at Konami or Kojima himself for answers to your other questions. He probably split because he wanted to have full control over his own games and simply could not have that while working directly under Konami. Anything I say will just be speculation though.

You mean the article that says Morningstar published an article saying they heard a Konami public relations representative say "We're actively looking into a release for the Xbox 360." is research? Wow. Mindblowing. That makes a huge difference to that statement being a rumor.
