Forums - Sony - A disgruntled complaint of a PS3 owner.

No i'm not going to complain about lack of exclusivity. I could care less about that. What I'm about to complain about are exactly those exclusives that the PS3 does indeed have.. I'm going to complain about their seeming inability to deliver on their graphical promises.

Actually I only started gathering information about the consoles a few days after I bought mine on June 12, 2008 to coincide with the launch of MGS4. Until then, i only knew that shit, it has Metal Gear, God of War, and Gran Turismo. Fine, I'll buy it. I also thought I was paying for potential, that the graphics are going to be the best.

So weeks after, I started hunting for some other PS3 titles to buy. And here came my first surprise: Unlike the 360, it could not upscale the games to the best resolution, could not handle 60fps consistently, and in fact, PS3 ports were looking much worse than their 360 counterparts. I started reading forums (which brought me here) and read that while the cell is indeed powerful, the other components of the PS3 were underpowered.

I didn't believe it at the time, thinking, shit, perhaps its coz programming 1080 and 60fps is expensive and would only show up in the exclusive high budget games that I would buy anyway. So fine, no problem. I'll let the multiplatform games have inferior graphics. It's the fault of lazy third parties. The PS3 is still definitely more powerful.

So I was happy with my Gran Turismo playing at the best freaking visuals I had ever seen. Great.

Then comes the LittleBigPlanet beta. FFS, it doesn't upscale. With that came a picture of the back of the box of the actual game (somewhere in these forums), which says it only supports 720p. LittleBigPlanet, a triple-A exclusive game not scaling. And again I'm especially disgruntled by this issue because my HDTV only plays 1080i.

Anyway, I started exploring some more. Turns out, Resistance 2 and Killzone 2, Sony's AAA exlusive action titles, have been announced to only go to 720p and 30fps.

And now to me, the myth of the PS3 being more powerful graphically is gone. The 360 can upscale everything to 1080p and bring its games to 60fps. The PS3 can only manage 1 game in 20 to do that.

So I am unhappy.

Sigh, people are never happy with things these days.

The Killzone 2 beta supports 1080, iirc. I'll go check just to make sure, however.

I know Naughty Dog are firmly in the 1080i camp now, and I don't see why Insomniac wouldn't be on board as well. The Naughty Dog guys didn't even realize the 1080 thing was an issue until they did a dev interview on the PS Blog shortly before Uncharted released. People spammed the comments section with complaints, so they added in 1080i. They said it's real simple to do, and had they known how many people wanted it, it would've been in from the start.

God of War III was initially announced as a 1080p game. I'm not sure if that will actually end up happening, though.

movies in blu ray are1080p and uncompressed, and about games only exclusives have the chance to make it to that because almost all multiplat games are ports from 360, I'd like sony to be more considered for programing games and then port them to 360.

The difference between 720p vs 1080p isn't worth the performance hit, unless you sit really close to a large TV, and you have 20/20 vision.  Does the fact that your tv plays 1080i mean it can't handle 720p?

edit - oh...

First of all I know you wanted to brush over the lack of exclusives deal, but I want to address that right now. PS3 has got exclusives. In fact it has more exclusives than the Xbox 360. People just seem to look the other way anytime a PS3 game is not on other platforms. Last week at TGS we saw 3 big exclusives from Japanese devs, and people act like PS3 had a crap show. I call White Knight Conicals, Demon Soul, and Quantum Theory a big great showing, that should have been an upturn for PS3 confedence. Instead people pretended this never happened, or just passed these games off as jokes.

As far as the TV thing goes, that is a crap deal. The good thing is 1080p TV's are selling for under a thousand bucks, as long as you stay under 46in. It is really worth it to upgrade to the new standard. Blu-ray movies will not let you regret spending the money.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Well Sony had to say something to make the PS3 to seem as powerful as the 360 or more powerful even if it was a lie,The PS3 graphics card is not as good as the 360,The 360 has more filrate that means the 360 can put more pixles on screen or can do advance shaders that the PS3 cannot do,Sony hyped up the PS3 when its basically the same as the Xbox 360 or even a less powerful.

Sony made the PS3 seem 100x more powerful than Xbox 360 and all this stuff about 1080p and 60 fps is all talk, when they cannot do neither one,Also Blue ray isnt that good either DVD reads 16x while blue ray is only 2x thats what ever PS3 owner has to INSTALL data onto there HDD  cause the blue ray is so slow.

Also dont forget 4D graphics, and you must not forget the dual 1080p TVs,that is flat out funny especally when they cant get 1080p with 60 fps on 1 TV let alone 2.

Guys please pay attention to his complaint, the reason he is disgruntled is because his TV does not support 720p.

He has every right to feel sadden that he cannot take advantage of his PS3 to the maximum potential, the debate on 1080i and 720p performance is irrelevant in his eyes.

Solution: get a 360 if you want 1080p
