Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What difference does Surround sound do for gaming?

Im getting a surround sound system hooked up to my wii by this saturday, but i want to find out what difference does it make? What will I hear? Will the music still be played in all the speakers? Is the center channel supposed to cary most of the sound?

Try playing the Metroid Prime series all over again. Let me know how it felt. ;)

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

Im not sure about the Wii, but surround sound+ Metal Gear Solid 4 = OMG. Its like playing an all new game. The wii will probably give adequate surround effect, although not lossless if thats what you're looking for. Good luck with it and enjoy :D

Let me put it this way

Sub Woofer (sp?) = win.

Surround does great stuff for immersion.

When playing MGS4, I first tried without my Surround sound, it was good fun.

Then I played it with my surround sound and it was a much different experience.

Surround sound does wonders.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

It looks very good. The Dolby Pro Logic II decoder on the Wii is actually pretty good...

Try Super Mario Galaxy... the orchestra music sound and feels a lot better.

No... the Wii has a Dolby Pro Logic II decoder and almost all Wii titles support DPL II (well, at least every Nintendo game and every good third party game)...

So, you will get 5 different channels (in case you have a 5.1 equipment)...

No i mean, the music of the game. Like in metroid prime 3, the area music, will that be repeated on all 5 speakers? What's the usage of the center speaker? Im new to this "surround sound" stuff.
