I really never played my original XBOX much (less than 30 hours for sure).
I pretty much bought it because the deal I got at EB was just too good. 2 controllers (one of which I ran over with my car) and 4 games for $200. Microsoft lost $500 on my purchase alone. So .. yeah, lately ressurecting Fable to try to get my wife to understand why I can't go a day without rambling on about Fable II, My wife buying Sudeki, PGR2, and XBOX360 emulation with the new controller My XBOX has seen more life the past couple weeks than it has on every day I owned it outside the day night I bought Fable.
Due mostly to Counterstrike/Half Life I havent had any desire to play any other FPS since the year 2000 until recently Bioshock brought me back. Halo came and went, fanboys were extremely annoying, I hated Microsoft and didn't own an XBOX at the time, so I had no interest in it. I was sceptical of the hype as I am with most things, but I can safely say I never outright bashed the game, because in all honesty I never played it. Halo 2 came and went, I thought it was fanboys long waited delivery that came late, they loved it, it didn't sound any bigger from me, but by that time I was commited to Azeroth and wasn't even console gaming any more outside of bringing my gamecube/DS to work and an occasional instance every now and again. (Mostly PSO to get my fix on Tuesday mornings when MMO servers were down, I also played CoH/V and Guild Wars). When Halo3 was released I watched it bieng played after a party and was pretty amazed by it. Sort of a first look at the 360 since it's debut (when it launched I thought overpriced and launch games = blah!) Bieng impressed by that wasn't enough to get me to buy a 360 and it wasn't until a year later as you all knoe , I finally got one mostly for Bioshock and the promise of Fable II, XBLA, 1080p support, and the price of $259.
OK Long story over, I needed to break a 20 and yada yada yada, my wife let me buy a game for $10 or less and I saw a copy of Halo and figured fuck it 8 years, or maybe 5 or however long it's been, I guess I'll finally see what it's all about.
I was able to play it a bit due to the fact I was sick last night and had to calll out and....
It's fun! I like it. No reason to hate it. It doesn't stand up to some of my more well liked games but it isn't bad. Comparitivly I am enjoying Gears of War better. I think I'll bump up the difficulty though. Playing it on Easy is reaally easy, I don't tend to expect that too much. (Usually I always play a game first on easy for two reasons. 1) I wanna pay atention to the story and get through it then come back to PLAY it moreso. and 2) Particularly with shooters I can't stand it when I play to a point and then find out I wasted too much ammo or something and I have to start all over again cause I saved in front of a boss and only have 30 pistol rounds. This really tends to tie into the first reason, I like to messs around the first time and play it for real after that.) I don't like the ATV controls so far, maybe I'll get used to them. Visuals seem pretty nice for the time. Audio is good, soundtrack is nice. Controls (outside ATV) is pretty crisp, Story/concept/design is pretty unique all things considered. It doesn't seem bad at all, I think by the time I finish it, I'll like this game, and don't see why people hate it (other than annoying fanboy hate of course).
