put this code, &fmt=18 , at the end of the URL. It would in about 75% of the videos. It will at least increase bit-rate a touch no matter what which is an improvement but not noticable enough so thats why I'm saying 75% improve.

small amounts for some large for others. Like Code Geass for example it improves the video quality 200% for some of the lower quality eps that only had a low quality setting available. Ithers it doesnt really do more then maybe 1% if that.
embedded video isnt effected at all.

I've got a good program that records videos directly off of many streaming websites. Youtube has a great selection, but the video quality is awful. I use it mostly to record music videos. I'll have to try out this trick in the future and see if I get any luck. AOL music is the best site I have found for high bitrates on music videos and good selection.
