I know you are a big Sony fan. Same as me. You just wanted to hear arguments about what strength Sony has. Well Sony is nowhere near any kind of danger. IMO the biggest strength that Sony has: Brand new IPs -> Resistance, Motorstorm, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, LBP, Siren:BC, White Knight, Infamous, DC Universe, MAG, Killzone. This adds to already established IPs from previous gen: God of war, Ratchet and surely many more that I forget now. All these games mean series of sequels that can only be played on the PS platform. Hell, I didn't even mention the 3rd party exclusives that u will get on the PS3. If you look at the sales gap right now, its not that much even though the price gap is big. All that sony needs to smash M$ is a strategic price cut. They might not even go for that, just prefer to maintain profitability while bleeding M$

These IPs really aren't selling that terribly well though for all the prasie they're given though. Sure some are excellent but its questionable if most released thus far will even make their money back. Sony's development teams are stressed, stretched and overtaxed this generation, being forced to put out games in the same or less time as the PS2 games they made last gen and the overall quality is starting to suffer. The only games that will justify the purchase of a PS3 are MGS4, Gran Turismo 5 and possible God of War 3, though after the cut & paste performance of God of War 2 and luke warm reception of Chains of Olympus, don't expect too much anticipation for this one. LBP will be an interesting spectacle, but don't expect it to sell any substantial number of consoles.

The problem here is that looking at most of these new IPs is no different than looking at the vast majority of new titles across the board this generation for the HD consoles, grouped together they all just look like a bunch of indistinguishably generic western targeted games with overly simple and non-descript titles that in no way lend themselves to any understanding of what the game is or it's appeal.

"OH HEY EVERYBODY! Look at this new Sony exclusive IP!!! It's called 'Cold Ember' and its a game where you run around with a gun in really dark environments with bland hyper-realistic colors and shoot stuff. I think you're a special agent fighting either aliens or government bad guys... or maybe its an RPG... I can't tell, but it looks awesome!!! This will so stand out against all the other generic games exactly like this being pushed this generation! When it comes out 7 years from now, it'll so totally make the PS3 awesome!"

Could someone please tell me what's the real issue here because I don't see how SONY is done for in regards to the PS3. Here's what I'm looking at: third party's are still developing for the PS3, third parties are getting a better handle on PS3 development, more third parties are using the PS3 as a lead platform, there is still a steady demand for the PS3, the PS3 still has its fair share and newly announced exclusives, and SONY is still stronly pushing first/second party develpment. Let's assume foreseeable worse case scenario that the PS3 remains in third. Can someone reasonably tell me why third parties will stop developing for the PS3, making it a less viable option given the facts I just mentioned? And for anyone (like Onimusha) to think that the PS3 willl be harmful to the PS4's success is being hypocritical by not counting the fact that Nintendo came back on top from the past two gens.

they're still developing for it because 95% of these games have been in development since before the PS3 launched. And better believe Sony is willing to pay handsomely to keep as many games as possible exclusive.

"there was never really much hope. just a fools hope."

HAHAHAHA!!!! You really believe what you are saying? If your 95% is so true, could you please predict when 3rd party support will abandon the PS3 after those 100% games are finally made. And if they are going to continuue to devellop for the PS3, why? 3rd party developers could have easily adandoned the PS3 with the 360 having a years head start and easier development on the 360.  And with the cost of development skyrocketing, many former PS3 exclusives were forced to multi-platform. But with 1st and 2nd parties, SONY is pushing newer IP's. That's where their investment is really going to.

Hackers are poor nerds who don't wash.

Lol. Never.

Then how come the only people we see getting excited about these new 1st and 2nd party Ips are people who already own PS3s?

I've skipped the discussion, so forgive me if I'm wrong about this, but...

Sephiroth357, the next time you want to try making one of these threads, take a hint from someone who knows how to do them right. Here's an example, I'm sure you can find others. As it is, this thread is kinda lame...

That will be all, thank you.

you say this a week before SoCom comes out...2 weeks before LittleBigPlanet...3 weeks before Motorstorm and 4 weeks before Resistance....interesting.

EDIT: and the next week Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm and Valkyria Chronicles.

 are you kidding me???

ever hear of fable 2 and gears 2 in the next couple of weeks???

Owner of all consoles cept DS.....Currently in love with prototype!

Onimusha, no damage control because I speak fact to suppport my assessment in my original post of this thread while you inject opinion. In FACT, SONY themselves have had several million plus selling games which without a doubt made money. This would support the strong possibility that some of those games more than made up for the financial possible lose of other SONY developed games. It certainly doesn't support your negative spin of:

"Sony's development teams are stressed, stretched and overtaxed this generation, being forced to put out games in the same or less time as the PS2 games they made last gen and the overall quality is starting to suffer."

... for instance. See, negative spin.
