the market is constantly expanding due to the increasing population.
As well as that, countries such as China, India, are having booming economies, and when these countries start getting into gaming, it's going to be huge.
I see the Wii surpassing the PS2 lifetime sales
Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!
@Wiigirl: I was under the impressing that DQ:S was kinda like Punch Out with little fights in between the big ones. Do you think that is an accurate description? Do you think that it will translate into replay value? Oh, and that sig is awesome.
I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
The wii will never pass the total sales of the PS2 or the PS1. The wii is a joke to the gaming world, its a fad and nothing else.

Getting a bit... bellicose? Or perhaps it's just a case of sour grapes?
Let me ask you this: What are your expectations that the PS3 will surpass either the PS2 or the PS1?

You're even a bigger fad as you produce more nonsense then the WII does.
@Steven, Punch Out? You're going through an area with monsters jumping from out of nowhere which you'll fight real time and indeed at the end you'll meet a boss. I think it has the most replay value in getting every area on S rank. With each rank after clearing an area, you earn an item and the better the rank, the better the item is which you'll get. Unfortunate only one village and from there you'll get to choose on a world map the area to go to. You can go back to places where you've been before, as some pads I couldn't reach... yet.

Yes, yes it could. Most things are possible. Why, you could wake up dead tomorrow.
Will it? I'm just going to say No, but I believe it will sell well. Plus, if it does break a record, there's always next gen to make a new one. Or the DS.
See Ya George.

At least following a comedians own jokes makes his death easier.

...how do you wake up if you're dead?
There is no question the DS is going to surpass the PS2 in sales. As far as the Wii goes you can expect that we won't be able to tell for sure at least for another year or two.

The available statistical (and anecdotal) evidence doesn't agree with this position, so I'm not sure why you hold to it so tightly.
Specifically, the Wii seems to be expanding the female and adult (age 25+) markets, according to NPD. At least in terms of console gaming -- PC gaming was always more mature and feminine than console gaming, which has tended to stay very young (6-17) and very male.

It's clear that the PC has generally been the home for adult gamers, while teenagers have largely dominated console gaming.

(Nintendo conference, section 1). Please note that the data compiled in the E3 conference is actually from the NPD, not Nintendo itself. These show rather convincingly that 1) console gamers were much younger than previously believed and 2) the Wii is currently grabbing profoundly more adult marketshare than ever before.
If you insist on seeing more anecdotal evidence, here you go:

(Episode 65 of the 1up show. Note most importantly that the only game these elderly women do not enjoy is the only violent one, suggesting again that violence is either irrelevant or a direct inhibitor to adult involvement in gaming).
Quoting the last linked article, relevant text:
Spurred by the popularity of the Nintendo Wii game system among older players, Erickson Retirement Communities, based in Baltimore, which manages 18 campuses around the country with 19,000 total residents, is installing the consoles at each location.
On Thursday Norwegian Cruise Line announced that it was installing Wii systems on all its ships.
Again, there are hundreds more all over the web. Like the Red Ring of Death issues, the examples are enumerable and begin to look much more like a data set than individual points. But again, we don't need to rely on these anecdotes anyway: the statistical evidence is right there, provided directly by NPD and the CEA. As I said, I'm not sure why you hold to this misconception so tightly, Grand, but it does seem to fly against all available evidence.
