well i did say it wasn't a megaton.

But don't even try to use the reasoning "who can say what is anticipated"
cuz that's a run-around.
Using that logic, ff13 on 360 isn't even a megaton because "who can say if it is really that anticipated"

Exactly. "Using that logic". This was your logic you chose to bring into this topic. I don't remember saying anticipated games that get first gameplay footage shown qualify as "supertons", you did. I spent my time refuting that. So if you have a problem with any of that, it's a problem with your own stance on the issue, not mine.

I said it didn't qualify as a megaton, maybe a superton, since it is a highly anticipated game that is finally showing gameplay. I said "maybe it is just a superton" I didn't state it as fact. Just because a lot of people are saying "whats the big deal?" doesn't mean that a lot of people aren't saying "OMGOMGOMGOMG". This is a problem with your stance, because you are only looking at your side of the ball. In short: some people are really blown away, some people are "meh"

My point was, there's no way to test anticipation. You can't say 100,000 people are anticipating Halo 4 as an 8 and 50,000 are anticipating FF XIII as an 11, because there's no way to prove that. We tend to find things a bit skewed on message boards here. In our little world, No More Heroes is one of the most anticipated games, and judging by forums you would think it's a multimillion seller. It's not, because in the real world games like Smash Bros. and Mario Kart are much more anticipated. Hell, Madden is more anticipated.

I never even said ff13 was an 11, i said "another game". Changing words is a sign that of actively trying to fault with an argument.

Being objective is important, but there is such a thing as being too objective. There is a psychological occurence called reverse-stereotyping where a person who tries hard not to fall prey to illusory corellations often starts assuming the opposite: EG: saying that nothing is anticipated. On a side note: FF13 is easily one of the most anticipated games this generation, exactly why the 360 announcement was such a big deal.

Should we be calling superton or megaton to every game that is highly anticipated that recieves it's first gameplay footage? Here's a list of games from this year, Gears of War 2, Resistance 2, Little Big Planet, Fable II, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, No More Heroes, Metal Gear Solid 4, Grand Theft Auto IV, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, etc. etc. Gosh, that's an awful lot of "superton" announcements.

The answer to that varies. To certain people it is applicable to call those superton.

However, really looking objectively into the matter,(and not objectively for the sake of being objective) I'm sure you can agree that most of those games are expected to look a certain way, in that we have seen pervious iterations (save for NMH and LBP, and maybe fable2 because of being an rpg) and can reliably have a good idea of what they will look like. Many people were unhappy with ff12 gameplay, many were happy. The key to the matter is that predicting the way gameplay would look for ff12 was largely a stab in the dark. Most every ff game looks different, has different systems, character presentation, feel, graphics.

I know that last line is going to be subject to scrutiny so i will sum it up here: A lot of games look to improve on things, make things more accessible, easier to control, so on and so forth. The last 5 FF games were very different in most aspects except for the 'battle things level up' gameplay. Generally the changes aren't improvements but different ways of doing the same thing. I'm sure that even if you don't agree, 90% of people will say that it would be easier to predict what (not in terms of graphics level) resistance 2 is going to look like than it is to predict what the next ff is going to look like.

Now, as for the battle system, it IS a large point of affinity, especially for an rpg. Therefore gameplay footage CAN be a make or break affair.

Your pregnant woman example at the bottom perfectly represented the entirety of the post preceding it. None of it made a lick of sense.

I explained that some people are nuts about this game. The level of fanaticism is huge, there are people (like myself) who own every FF, just like people that like dragon quest and so forth. However, a legacy like FF is hardly challenged by many franchises. Cloud himself is one of the favorite characters of all time among many polls, as are sephiroth, tifa, and aerith. In fact many gamers rate the aerith dying scene as one of the best gaming events of all time, so yes, there is a great level of dedication to this franchise. FF IS a big deal.

Like I said, i tried. You on the other hand did not try to understand. Communication is a two way street.

sometimes i think you disagree with me just for the sake of disagreeing.

PS: i tried to play nice and say it wasn't a megaton, even though for some people it is. I never said it was because some people thought so. I never sought to blatantly disagree with people here, and just tried to say it was a big deal regardless of whether it was a megaton or not.

looking at this thread, it looks like more people care that its on the 360 and ps3, than the actual game itself.

This is what kojima meant when people kept attacking him for a 360 MGS4.

Are you guys gamers or fanboys? Speak the truth, you act as if you dont care that GAMEPLAY OF FF XIII is being shown (FINAL FANTASY XIII GAMEPLAY FOOR THE FIRST TIME IN REAL TIME), you only care that its not exclusive anymore, funny stuf.

A pregnant woman is ready to kill in order to have a certain flavor combination, but a couple guys are just gunna be like "eh, we'll just get some chinese" when they find out domino's is closed

-a lot of people will not rest until they play the game. Much like how jo21 will not rest until he plays ffv13, and even said it would be the game he plays for eternity just because he HAS to play it. That is called dedication. (maybe crazyness)
Others are like, Oh we can't play (the example i used halo 4) halo 4, oh well lets just play something else.

In all honesty, I know that my use Halo4 might be a controvercial subject and I know that halo 4 IS going to be a really anticipated game, but for argument purposes it doesn't matter if the game i alluded to was halo, i merely chose halo because I knew that it would be very much anticipated, but i thought less so compared to ff13 as it goes along with my point.

leo while i agree that ff13 gameplay footage is a big deal it isn't a megaton. I don't think really any megaton compares to the ff13 on 360 announcement at e3.
However, you have to understand that people from now on are going to be comparing megatons to that one for a long while to come.

@theprof

So if FF XIII were still exclusive to the PS3, would this be considered a megaton?

I hope they Show Gameplay.. and not CGI

The point made is that gameplay footage itself of a game we've all known about for years and were expecting this from is not a megaton. You may insert that into any game known to man. Here's how you can judge it. In five years will people still remember that at TGS Square showed off gameplay footage? Doubtful. I bet you in five years though people will still remember FF XIII going multiplatform. There is your difference. A megaton is the hall of fame of announcements. I don't really think this belongs in the hall of fame.

@the prof-Sorry if I was coming off mean. Let's just agree to disagree at this point, because we both have different views on the matter.
