Forums - Sales Discussion - 360 big in Japan, but new PS3 could usurp lead

crumas2 said:

I don't believe money can solve everything or capture every market, and I'm not a big fan of Mr. Gates or MS, and I own Macs.  But I like my 360 (2+ years with the 1 unit), and I like the games available for it.

If I refused to buy an Xbox because MS made it, then I would also refuse to buy anything Sony (I have LOTS of Sony electronics) because of problems I've had with some of their products (their large-tube TV quality-control in the late 80's was a joke), and because of their often aggressive approach regarding DRM (root-kit installing CDs come to mind).

But then again I can probably find fault with just about every mega-company out there.

Yes, but you obviously aren't a fanboy. I buy Sony stuff, but I never bought Playstations, I'll buy a Wii when it will be cheaper and yes, I fear MS for its relentless efforts to become monopolist everywhere, but as long as MS doesn't get more than, let's say, 40% of console market, it's fine for me, more competition, better for everybody. But here I was more mocking their typical attitude: they put a lot of money in Zune and they think it must be a success, they spend billions in that bloated mess of Vista and it must be a success, they buy a lot of JRPG's for XB360 and it must become a success in Japan... Well, they have more faith in money than the Pope in God

You would think MS would know better after Bob and Me.

Bob worked well enough: one of its project leaders married The Boss!!!

Edit:

About ME, no comment, I had to bear it some years before Artec released NT drivers for my scanner and I was able to switch to Win 2000.

I know this is way late, but looking at those lists on the front page...do people really expect Cry On to make it out next year? Mistwalker was a complete no show at TGS.

Hell, for all we know Microsoft dropped them like Ensemble and FASA.

PS3 will win Japan bro - believe it.

We all know games sell consoles. Look at the Xbox 360 lineups and make your prediction again.

Brand loyalty only goes so far...

Xbox 360 Japan 2008
November - Agarest Senki: Reappearance, The Last Remnant (Timed)
December - Fable II

Xbox 360 Japan 2009
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Star Ocean: The Last Hope, Ninety-Nine Nights II, Halo 3: Recon, Forza Motorsport 3, Ninja Blade, Cry On

PlayStation 3 Japan 2008
October - SOCOM: Confrontation, LittleBigPlanet
November - Resistance 2, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, Way of the Samurai 3, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm
December - White Knight Chronicles

PlayStation 3 Japan 2009
Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Gran Turismo 5, The Last Remnant, Yakuza 3, Demon's Souls, Killzone 2, Quantum Theory

I think PS3 wins.

I crossed out titles that won't make the year you listed them in, added a title we are expecting for Xbox 360, and crossed out titles the Japanese have no interest in.  All of a sudden the lists look more even.

Sorry, but those PS3 games you crossed out because "the Japanese have no interest in" will sell a lot more than some of those 360 games you failed to cross out. Why do you think Japan is interested in Halo, but not Resistance?

I meant to cross our Halo not underline it.

Agarest Senki? That will be lucky to sell 10k units. Japan has far more interest in the FPS you crossed out than this game. Also, why cross out Motorstorm, which sold 60k for the previous installment, but leave Forza, which only sold 30k last time?

Damn.

BKK2 pwned Starcraft.  I'll make the changes in the list to reflect what Japan gamers will care about.

You remove Forza which sold tremondously well at the time relative to userbase, but keep Motorstorm which sold poorly?  Then you keep GT5 which is all but confirmed not to be coming out next year?

Self ownage?

MotorStorm has sold over 3.5 million to date. Granted, 500k+ of that probably came from bundles.

Also, aren't the current rumors that Turn 10 is working on PGR5 rather than Forza 3?

And I still don't understand why Cry On is on that list.

Why don't you take a look at Sony's lineup, then make your prediction again.

Champ.

I believe there are competing rumours.

Because last we heard it is due in 2009.

If we're talking just Japan, then MotorStorm wasn't bundled.  It also sold 90k between MotorStorm and MotorStorm: Complete, whereas Forza 2 sold 40k.

Also, Forza 2 was heavily bundeld as well.

We have quite a few of the Forza2/MUA 2-packs sitting on the shelf at GameStop.

@ Smash

Thank You.

Funny how people around here make assumptions left right and center, not knowing what the hell they are talking about.

It amazes me.

No problem =)
