Forums - Sales - Iron Man Blu-Ray sells Over Half A Million First Week

There weren't any exact numbers last time I mentioned sales were good, so here they are. If around 20% of all Iron Man movies sold were on Blu-Ray, that means around 2 million in DVD sales.

Iron Man Sells Half Million Units on Blu-ray

Posted October 9, 2008 10:42 AM by Josh Dreuth

According to retailer reports, the Blu-ray version of 'Iron Man' sold 260,000 copies on its first day of sale - a record for the Blu-ray format - and has sold over 500,000 copies in its first week of sales, becoming the highest selling Blu-ray title of the year. Coming in a distant second on the Blu-ray sales chart was the Blu-ray release of 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall'.

Not surprising, 'Iron Man' is also the most widely owned Blu-ray title amongst users who have added their collection to their user profile. To check out other popular titles from our users, go to our Community page.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. I saw it in theaters, but I really want this movie on Blu-ray! My Wal-mart has been sold out of BD versions since day one. I ain't buying no DVD! And I'm not paying inflated Fye/Sam Goody prices.

Article fixed now that I am off that shitty school computer...

Now this is impressive. Yes, we all know that a title like Iron Man will skew particularly heavily towards Blu Ray. But still... 20% of sales, over 500,000 sold.

That is significant.

This film will look awesome in HD. The effects were very impressive

Well, I've read it was 7.2 mln DVDs (http://www.n4g.com/tech/News-212332.aspx)

Hm, I still haven't picked this up. Not sure why.

Tbh, I was hoping the Dark Knight would be Blu-Ray's the Matrix, the first title on the format to sell a million first week, but with these numbers, it's looking like it'll be lucky to break 750k. :(

But that's still one hell of a feat. :D

500,000 is 6.9% of 7,200,000
