Forums - Sony - NC Soft US President Talks About the deal with Sony- Expect new PS3 games

I love NCSoft because they own ArenaNet and they created Guild Wars(spent 2k hours on that game). I only hope that this purchase is not going to detract ANet's time from Guild Wars 2 and other cool online PC games. I still need to play City of Heroes and Villains but dam it I dont have enough time and its summer. I dont even want to imagine how little i am going to play when college starts.

That would suck if they brought Auto Assault.

I thought Auto Assault was dying soon.

My big, big problem with console MMOs are buttons. Unlike FPS, where the issue is aiming (mouse is much better) my big problem with MMOs on consoles have been:

1) Connectivity, as console players have been substantially behind the technological curve. This is slowly catching up.

2) Buttons. I have 30+ skills to use as a higher level player, and I am absolutley not scrolling over them to activate. I need 30+ buttons and the ability to bind those skills to all those buttons as I see fit.

Until console players catch up, and until the control interface is drastically overhauled (gosh I don't like gamepads -- have I said often enough that they should be obviated?) I'm staying away.

But all that is personal: I expect this merger with NC Soft to be a good boost for console MMOs, even if I personally stay away.

1) Dedicated servers.

2) PS3 supports mouse and keyboard (see Unreal Tournament PS3)

Any other problems?

i have a prejudice against MMOs. They stole my friends. I despise WoW and Guild Wars with all my heart.

I think if sony wants to they can make the psn better than xbox live with there "open" network letting mmo's and mods be compatible with it which is nearly impossible to do on the xbox network.

1) Are still way behind, sorry. The PSN in total is about 1/10th the size of World of Warcraft all by itself. I'm not talking about the servers themselves; they've been available for a long time. I'm talking about the players themselves, who have not adopted online play at a high enough rate yet.

2) I understand that it does, and I know about UT3. The issue isn't just having those available; the issue is complete button and key customization.

So those issues have not been resolved, Ck. They certainly will be at some point in time, but not yet. I'm aware of progress being made (I even stated this in my original post), but "getting there" is not "there" for me. Thanks though.

For your point 2, it supports keyboard. What issue over 30+ buttons. The keyboard it uses is identical to the one u use on the PC. I believe you are definitely able to map the keys, if keyboard is implemented in the game. Since it accepts keyboard and mouse, I dun see why the computer is superior over the PS3 in terms of this function.

The only issue I see with the PS3 is the lack of RAM. They should have at least 2gb of it.

All MMO are crappy on some level, full of repetition and pure game of chance (all drops are random, or haven't you noticed.)

P.S. Please note that addictiveness =/= greatness.

I am a PC gamer, and also have a NDS now, but without access to a Nintendo Wii until End of 2007.

Currently playing: Super Smash Brothers Brawl(Wii), Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer(DS), Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime (DS), WiiFit(Wii)

Games Recently Beaten: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King (Normal; Very Hard after the next DLCs become available)

Do you not understand what I'm saying? This is the third time I've said this (I did say it in my original post). It needs to support keyboards AND allow complete custom binding and key remapping. That has not happened in any MMO in console history (the EQ on PS2 supported keyboards too, it just didn't allow remapping). When it happens, that objection will be removed.
