While there are one or two cartoons out now which I think are very funny and entertaining (Sponge Bob, Fairly Odd Parents,) I would have to say that most modern cartoons are just awful and long for the days of my youth when there were tons of cartoons that were great. 

Naturally my opinion is tainted by nostaligia, but here are a few cartoons that I don't think come close to being touched by modern series:

From the 80s:

Count Duckula
Transformers
The Real Ghostbusters
Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles
Thundercats

Moving in to the 90s

Darkwing Duck
Animaniacs

Some great pop-culture based shows:

Captain N Game Master
Super Mario Brothers Super Show/Legend of Zelda
Kidd Video.

My favourite cartoons were Ducktales, Scooby Doo and Super Mario Bros. =D

Ducktales was pretty good, and the NES game that resulted was pretty good as well.

Heh, I know. I have a set of Danger Mouse DVDs that I just watched a bit ago. I think they only released two seasons in America.
