Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Is the $200 Arcade model a ripoff or a deal?

$200 for a console with the biggest and overall best library of games?

Its a bargain, A steal, A good investment and generally a damn good deal

Bottom line____________

BUY ARCADE IF:

If your not going to download content(movies, games etc)
If your on a budget
You'd rather get an xbox 360 with two games
Not a huge online gameplay fan(you can play online but it wont be the ideal experience)

DONT BUY ARCADE IF:

you wanna rip custom sound tracks
Wanna update your maps (GOW,halo etc)
You dont have an HDMI cable lying about. the composite only supports 480i
Your an online gamer(lack of headset for chats etc)

The extra 100 bucks ensures you get a component cable, audio headset, 60 gb hard disk. Id rather you spend the 100 bucks since you 'll probably upgrade eventually anyways.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

5 THINGS I'd like to see before i knock out:

a. a AAA 3D sonic title

b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"

c. redesgined PS controller

d. SEGA back in the console business

e. M$ out of the OS business

$200 is phenomenal. The core system wasn't worth it. The arcade is.

Pretty much, if he wants a hard drive, he can just buy one on eBay. I got my 20GB HDD for my 360 for $37 after shipping.

Tell him to buy everything off eBay, if he's patient enough. I just bought nine games (all considered good), two controllers, and a 20GB hard drive for about $250.

Ok...listen carefully...here is what he should do.

Get the arcade - $199
Buy a used hard drive 20gig - $40 tops
Buy this to get xbox live membership for 13 months and headset and a keyboard pad(doesnt come with the arcade model)

Sell his memory card and pgr4 if he doesnt like it - ~ gets 30-40 bucks back

All he needs is an hdmi cable or composite cables if he has an hd tv...

That all should be less than 300 bucks

Careful there.  You mean COMPONENT.  Common mistake.  The composite cables are the yellow video cables.  For HDTV, you need component which is the blue, green and red.

Keep this in mind when reading what I type...

I've been gaming longer than many of you have been alive.

Remember guys he can get a 60gb HDD, headset, 3 months live for $99 later if he wants so I suggest you tell him to get a new Arcade with a couple of games and when he can afford it later get the other stuff as well.
