Forums - General Discussion - Who here supports T. Boone Pickens' Energy Plan?

Oh and nuclear fission is credible, possible today. CERN, the LHC dudes, are working on this technology. check out their website

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Some of the best scientist in the US are working in DC right now, and have been working for 20 years, on what to do with the nuclear waste. I wouldn't doubt that the same thing is happening in other countries. If there is a way, those people will find it. In the mean time, I think we need more geothermal plants. The western half of the US is great for geothermal and if you want to dig deep enough, the eastern half can as well. Iceland is trying to become completely energy independent with technology like geothermal and if a big country like the US really wanted to we could really push that technology further than anyone could have imagined a few years ago.

edit-megaman, I believe you mean fusion, we have been doing fission for decades.

cheers, yea im with you on geo thermal. No funding here, despite our wide coverage of stored potential in oz. Problem is its too fukn easy to just dig some coal out of the ground, its too cheap.

halo i really hope you are joking about fusion. because that is a cred losing statement, not that i haven't said many of those types of things but still.
kettle, you are black !

Well I guess the environmentalists did some good here after all. Those tree huggers would probably throw a parade for you if built something like geothermal here and with their control over the government get you some federal funding.

edit-yeah, we are decades, maybe even a century away from power plants being that powerful.  Could you imagine though the amount of juice going through those lines to power half the US?

What about an orbital solar collector? That can work with today's tech but there has to be a delivery method capable of penetrating the ionosphere.

HALO LOL!!! MAYBE A LONG WIRE!!!!

@theprof I was thinking more along the lines of UV transmission!

like microwave!!!?!?!? what is this simcity?
You really have ot look at the implications of transmitting enormous amounts of heat and radiation into the atmosphere regardless of how tight the transmission is.

Yeah but lets be realistic here. Nuclear, while realistic as a viable replacement, will take 20 - 30 years to authorize, get planning permission and build enough plants to replace coal plants.

We need solutions now and T Boone IS NOT investing in oil anymore. What does that tell u
